How did this event sneak up on me so fast! Gotta make that list!

Same here. I hope I can create the list and send it in this weekend, so I can get started on hints and so on.

Y'all aren't alone. I only just started compiling people's lists today, and still haven't done any graphics for my top 50 or really anything at all other than making the list itself... Speaking of, my game for today wasn't guessed yet so I'll drop another hint.

#48 - Crows doing paperwork in a monochrome dimension that serves as this game's hub world.
Hint 2 - This hub is connected to the colored overworld through doors that teleport you into different areas.

#49 - You can't use the signature moves of the series in this title, but you can use some other person's equipment instead.

  1. It's a Metroidvania kind of game where you have to go back to previous places once you found the necessary equipment to get to new places in them.
  2. While the signature move are missing, the main character is still attacking with the hair

#47 - Looks a lot like Metroid

  1. While it later got ported to consoles, it came out on home computers first
  2. It's very famous for it's soundtrack by Chris Hülsbeck, which later even had a CD release

#45 - A Jump'n run on a Disney license

  1. You can choose which stage you want to go, though one is not really accessible until you got something from another stage first

#44 - An RTS that becomes more of a 4x over time in space and in real-time

  1. With every rank increase, the playable part of the game world map increases, and with it what you can build and research

#43 - A base-building game where your handful of people must survive the end of the world, as hell has taken over

#48 Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2

This game is quite unique in my top 50 games list this year. It is one of only 2 sport focused games and it is the only game I never owned. I played this game with two friends, one who lived far away that I liked, and one that lived close by that I despised. This game got its way into my top 50 since it made me tolerate that stupid "friend" neighbor in order to grind up higher points.

#50: Final Fantasy XVI

  • Tonally the darkest entry in this long-running series

#49: Suikoden II

  • Recruiting the Stars of Destiny part 2
  • 108 of them to be specific

#48:

  • The second game in the second arc of this storyline spanning a dozen games (so far)
  • The name of this arc comes from the city these two games are primarily set it.
  • The subtitle of this game could also be "Paths to Bright Blue"

#47: Lost Odyssey

  • A thousand-year-old immortal

#46: Okami

  • Perform miracles with ink to revive the world

49. Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (PC)

Visual Novels are a medium I've enjoyed, but I won't exactly be posting a lot of them in my Top 50, mostly because a lot of them barely qualify as games. However, Virtue's Last Reward manages to include enough gameplay in interesting ways that I have no hesitation about it qualifying for this Top 50.

The premise of Virtue's Last Reward is that a group of 9 characters are placed in a mysterious location and have to play a life-or-death game to escape. Progress is made by performing escape room challenges in a "point and click" style of gameplay as well as navigating the many twists and turns of the narrative. Overall, the story is a gripping tale with interesting characters that will require solving various brainteasers and spending many hours reading boxes of dialogue.

Spoiler!

Virtue's Last Reward is a strong visual novel from the get-go, but its the Spoilers that elevate it to greatness.

I completely agree with this. I've found most visual novels to be lacking, but Virtue's Last Reward is something special. The story and characters are SO good, and the puzzle-solving gameplay -- in both the individual escape rooms and across the narrative -- is gripping. For me, it's the best of its kind.

No, different series entirely.

Wrong thread though, post it in the Official thread.
