Forums - Politics - Is anybody else here a fan of the 1st amendment auditor movement?

These guys go around taping public servants to see the reaction that they get.  Sometimes the officials will tolerate this, recognizing the freedom and transparency that American society needs.  Or, they may call the cops lol.  It grew out of the cop watch movement that started around 2016 and 2017 when those police shootings were really frequent, and is probably best thought of as an extension of that.

My favorite channel is Long Island Audit, and he'll try to educate the officials to show that he not only has a right to do this, but also has a valid reason.  Here's a sample of his work:

The whole idea is that if they allow filming of tax funded and public entities, then that is a good sign that they are on the up and up.  It also teaches police officers some amount of restraint in dealing with people filming them, otherwise the police may make a serious judgement error and hurt people unnecessarily.

Yeah I've seen the ones who go into police stations and film for "hustoy" or some such. One guy got arrested and the cop got fired for arresting him. I think it's extremely bad faith acting, they're not doing it to prove they can, they are doing it to get a reaction and content and then end up ruining someone's life. All public servants aren't experts in the law, they should be more trained or have basic understandings but they aren't. I do feel less bad about the cops getting busted in these situations though, they should know the law yet I still feel these guys are just instigators and causing trouble for content, few of them care about educating people on the law.

You're definitely entitled to your opinion bro. But they will get cops to slow down and have better judgement, in a variety of situations because cops will never know when someone has their camera going. I feel like this is a good thing for our society.

Well there is that I suppose. Maybe I'm too harsh on them, I guess perhaps only the provocative ones turn up on social media.

Something about his voice and the way he treats people, no thanks no interest in watching it even if it's for a good cause.

A few more....

Here is Sean doing a story on the corrupt mayor of Dalton.  I'm really proud of him for doing a series of stories on Dalton, as cockroaches get chased away by the light

Here Sean confronts her at a town meeting

Here is a guy that does audits with a comedy bent

I watched it a bit, I suppose I get the idea. In the first video the guy in the pink shirt, Micheal, handled it so well to start with and then they had to try and throw him out. I still feel bad for the poor workers who's jobs he's just making hard.

Guy in the Jacket makes good points though.
