PC is my main platform, but I would probably settle for less aiming for the stars. Recently I've also been increasingly wondering whether reinventing the game for every single game makes sense, e.g. do we really need brand new textures for the same purposes and graphical styles for all games instead of perhaps reusing them more. Perhaps I'm just not knowledgeable enough, but to me the industry seems very wasteful.

You've never heard of Like A Dragon, formally Yakuza and now sometimes Judgement. They are the same game over and over again and they sell. Also Soulsborne reuse a lot of stuff, especially animations and the new stuff helps build out the newer games to be bigger and better. Big studios used to do it but now gamers seem to see it as taboo when the Ubisofts and EA's blatantly reuse stuff and there is the age old debate of sports games releasing the same game every year, it's not like the can reinvent them.

Personally, Yakuza is the prime example that it doesn't matter if you reuse stuff from the previous games, albeit in new worlds and not the same city as long as you make it feel different enough and change things where it counts. I went on down a rabbit hole on this and Halo has a rock they reused through the game by just turning it in different directions and they done it so well no-one noticed they used the same rock through the hole game.

AI should help with the grunt work in the future and allow devs to resuse assets without it seeming blatant, more like recycle them and have AI alter them to be different enough.

Give me ps4 graphics and ps2 style gameplay and inovation.
And noo cencorship or lgbqti stuf

Which is it? Are we saying no to censorship or yes to censorship for LGBT?

Cause it sure sounds like you are pro-censorship.

Lets not let one individuals intolerance and demand for censorship of a minority ruin this thread, guys.

As a PS/Xbox gamer I already have "downgraded" graphics. It's not a high-end PC.

However, I would absolutely tolerate lower fidelity visuals if it meant less bugs and more consistent frame rates... Even if they kept the same price.

I am not a graphic junkie by any means. But i would probably be bummed out if the latest games on the newest systems didn't have a noticeable graphical upgrade.
I value unique fun gameplay and stories over graphics but I do not find them to be mutually exclusive. One can be greedy and demand both.

As a consoel gamer yes, as a PC gamer no, I want everything cranked up to the limit lol

Would I be ok with ps4 graphics on the ps5.... no, because I bought a ps5. Don't' sell new hardware and then don't take advantage of it. I mean I don't expect switch graphics on the switch 2.

I think graphics have got good enough that another 10 years of games looking like they do now (and this means the big expensive ones like Horizon, GoW etc) would be enough for most people. Smaller upgrades are best for a bit as these companies need to become cost effective.

This said I still want innovation and after Sony's development into first media sharing/game recording in PS4 gen and interactive gaming in the dualsense for PS5 gen, we need something outside of just an upgrade to make it feel like a new gen. MS is content with doing that as they are moving to a more service like structure which isn't innovation, just how you get the games, and might results in stilfing the industry as they need to keep up with the demand of "day 1 games" yet also being the "best of the best" as well, they can't maintain that, even with buying up half the industry, so they've got to add more in the long run. Not sure what Sony can do next gen as innovation to make a PS6 not just an upgrade.

Hmm, pie.

...if it meant better, more polished and finished games and more of them releasing and more exclusives like Adtrobot. Possibly even return the price back down to 69.99 euro?

Let's say, capped at somewhere between 8th gen graphical fidelity. I know Nintendo gamers have already voted yes in like 2007.

I don't even need full 3D camera movement or environments.
Isometric top down, RPGs are awesome.

Think how much time is wasted, that could just be a beautiful background, instead of a full 3D world.

My opinion is they should dial it back, stop chasing graphics unless some AI solution comes along to take the endless Manuel labor and severe costs. Having an artist spend three days on a cupboard or other small asset is ridiculous. Aliasing is the thing that made graphics look bad and it's done with a generation ago, there is so much that can be done now aside from graphics to make things look better. Suckerpunch understand this with the particle effects they use and attention to detail with how things move in Ghost of Tushima and Gjost of Yotei. We need to spend those recourses elsewhere and bring back interactive environments, stuff like the ice cubes melting in MGS2 and small details like that add up to make a bigger package. I'm sick of static environments that feel like backgrounds more than living worlds. My two cents.

Sucker Punch are masterful at this stuff.
The world feels alive because of it too.

"I'm sick of static environments that feel like backgrounds more than living worlds."

I was fine with everything you said until this part.
Hey man.... I love those old school isometric topdown games, that have near static backgrounds.
(though most of the better looking ones, do use tricks and have motion in them as well)

Well you know, still tidy things up like. Ya know refine the graphics and use the extra power, time and saved resources in areas like particular effects, world interactivity, frame rate, and small details like retractable horse testicles and stuff like it. Maybe even follow the path that games on the ps2 tried with world destruction and stuff like that with red faction but that was given up on for increasingly better looking but static and dead worlds. The graphics don't have to stop, they can be refined and improved on but without having multiple devs spend so much time and money on one small room where the player may spend a total of 2 seconds and not look at anything or bother stopping cause it's not interactive.
