Disappointing tbh. It’s a perfectly fine meta for most things, but this is mainline Zelda. It’s never gone this low critically before, not even Spirit Tracks. I guess playing as Zelda is a bit of curse for the franchise…

As of I'm writing this at 86 it's only one point behind Links Awakening's 87 on Metacritic.

That’s a remake. I’m talking about new mainline Zelda games.

Yes it was a remake but also a fantastic game that I beat twice.  I'm going to have just as much fun with Echoes of Wisdom as I did with Links Awakening.

About what I expected. In line with most handheld Zelda games (a bit on the lower end, but still there). If it's like the others, probably a terrific game.

I can understand the 86MC/OC. It's a fantastic Zelda game...but you can tell the studio behind it isn't Nintendo, it's Grezzo. Very creative, the music is some of the best from a Nintendo exclusive this entire generation,... but the gameplay mechanic and the world have nowhere near the same level of polish as seen with TotK. Lots of areas where you'd expect to be rewarded by being resourceful with your "echoes" that lead either to an empty/awkward corner or an invisible wall.

EoW is very linear. It is not a sandbox nor open world experience by any means. The combat system is very neat, though it'd be nice to just swing a sword and use my shield. I've only just completed the first dungeon, so these are entirely firsr impressions of the game. In many ways, it topples TotK, but in far more ways, however, it get trampled by TotK.

Your telling me they put in no combat whatsoever... you can't even summon things to throw at enemies...is there even enemies? Seems like that'd get boring after a while, I loved the idea of the Thrine games but always got bored quickly and they had combat, Thrine with just the puzzle aspect would be boring as fuck.

Huuuh did you ever look any of the trailers ? The echoes are more than just summoning objects, you can also do that with enemies.

Also there's a way to use a sword(on a limited timer).

Huh. I've been misled so.

12 hours in. Taking it slow and easy. Just going to start with the 3th dungeon. Absolutely loving the game. The echoes are kind of a prize in themselves, because some are rare and hidden and act as key items in a way. Combat is more strategic, including the when to do swordswinging. I like this.

The two Dungeons I did at the start where good. There is more linearity in this one, so there is a noticeable difficulty progression. Some of the puzzle rooms are really good, especially the side scroller ones. Super charming, great music. For a '2D' Zelda, a pretty chuncky game.

Sounds great!

Will borrow my brothers game after he played it.

I do not think this game will sell well. It looks really boring. Nintendo outdid themselves and made a Zelda game completely void of combat. 86 is actually too high of a score for this game.
