Black Myth: Wukong's Sales Top 18 Million in Two Weeks on PS5, PC | Push Square

"Black Myth: Wukong: the title has now topped 18 million sales across PS5 and PC in just two weeks. As previously reported, it sold 10 million copies in just three days, and has added a further eight million units to its tally since then."

"An expansion is now in development for the game, which the developer hopes will maintain the popularity of the release for many years to come."

This is likely the 2nd fastest selling video game of all time, GTA V sold 16.5m in it's first 3 days so is almost certainly number one, I don't know of any other title that could have sold this fast.

For comparison to another title, Hogwarts Legacy was the best selling game of 2023. It took 3 months to reach 15m in sales and this title has done even better in less than a quarter of the time.

It's pretty comparable to Red Dead Redemption II - 17 million in 12 days.

I'm pretty sure it's legs will run out long before it reaches lifetime sales of that caliber, but I guess we'll see. PUBG reached 75 mil before it went F2P in large part due to China, but that also had global sucess and longevity on it's side.

Nintendo | PlayStation | Multiplat

Interesting to see BM sell while Hellblade flop. Both are technical masterpieces.

It's grossed $850 million on Steam alone, most sales are probably on PC

Over 14m if Steam users love buying games at full price (USD).

Other currencies probably decrease that number though.

Actually it would increase it, the game is around $40 in China

I was talking more the Euro and British Pound. Good point for China, didn't think Chinese people (or the government) loved steam so much.

They're saying 17.8 million sales just on Steam alone out of the 18 million? That can't be right. I know the PS5 version didn't sell anywhere near as much, but I was figuring at least a few million copies were sold on PS5.

Surely this will be the best selling game of 2024 right? I thought that had gotten decided really early this year with Palworld but nope the huge mega hits just keep coming. I wonder how long it'll be till a game blows up big time thanks to Indians going crazy for it. With the population approaching 1.5 billion it's gonna get juicy once India gets developed enough.

VG Insights is similar to other sites that try and track sales via public data. They're just estimates and are often very wrong. Starfield for example they had grossing $235 million last year, the image below used their data, but later they adjusted it down and if you look on their site now they have it at $220 million despite it having another 8 months of sales on top.

Basically never trust the data from sites like this to be accurate. Palworld is another example where the frequent updates from the developers saying how much they sold showed how bad these sites were. They're not a completely useless source, better than nothing, but there is a wide margin of error.

It's not just PS5 sales missing either, wegame is a big gaming platform in China that has Black Myth Wukong. So if total sales are 18m there's no way steam sales are 17.8m. It's also for sale on the Epic Games Store.
