Forums - Sales - Wii is a HUGE software seller!

I have more respect for a company that can make a profit when it's last in that generation and is almost only (well) supported by itself then companies that have to give out moneybags for 3rd-party games, but whatever... We all know that you dislike Nintendo so why bother?

Oh, and i just wanted to say: It's just ignorance that keeps 3rd-party devs away from Wii... They keep saying i't doesn't have 'real' games and only has casual players... Well, why don't they make a 'game' that is a 'real' game in their eyes for it! And i think RE4, Guitar Hero etc... Proof that these kind of games can actually do well on the system. And most of the 3rd-parties can only make a real good profit on Wii, especially the smaller ones!

They'll start using the logic of "if we put certain games on a console, it will boost hardware sales amongst a certain audience, thus increase software sales" when people stop throwing hissy fits every time the PS3 gets an exclusive...

"Company X is stupid for only putting this game on system A. They're just throwing money down the toilet for not putting it on system B."

Everyone assumes that a hardcore game on the Wii won't sell, but if you put more of those types of games on the Wii, "hardcore" gamers will HAVE to buy a Wii and play those games, en masse if its a good enough game. Everyone assumes an RPG won't sell on the 360, but if companies put more out there for the system, people will HAVE to buy them somehow. People (at least in 2007) swore that the PS3 had a small install base because it had no games. MAKE GAMES FOR A SYSTEM IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO BUY THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because that's how you increase install base, which means more gamers, which means more sales of a given game

None of those games will sell 5 million though

SERIOUSLY! What is your problem?! Why don't you just read my post(s)... Like i said: A game DOESN'T NEED TO SELL 5 MILLION TO MAKE A PROFIT! i figure 500k equals good profit for an average 3rd party developer on Wii...

So, here's the deal: When there's a PS3 game (1st or 3rd party) that sells over 5 million (without bundles) THIS YEAR! I'll eat my nunchuk!...      Stupid ignorant fanboys, can't argue with them... *sigh*... And here's a hint: READ POSTS BEFORE YOU COMMENT!

I was bringing it back into the context of the OP

I read your post, but the OP is talking about 5 million+ sellers, which none of them will be.

Ignorant fanboy?

lulz, I may or may not be a fanboy, but I'm not ignorant.

Okok, so you're not ignorant!... Maybe passionate enough to defend the system/company you hone?!... !

This might be the 3rd time I've posted this today.

All big budget 3rd party titles out right now were planned and in development prior to the launch of the Wii. At that point most developers/publishers had wrote off the Wii and very few put much budget into their Wii titles.

Now that they know the success of Wii, we've read how they've tripped over themselves to reallocate resources to Wii development.

Big budget development is a 2-3 year investment and we will start to see those on Wii later this year to early next year.

True. But what if they look at the few third party hardcore titles there are, their sales and don't believe in Wii still?

Well, some nice stuff, third party and second party will come, but the belief that Wii will fail is still heavy and it has already affected the console even if it gets better and maybe Nintendo could have done something about it with more deals like Red Steel, Disaster: Day of Crisis and Fatal Frame 4 and gotten some of it out earlier instead of just Nintendo core series.

Not likely.  A console can't sell dozens of millions and not be able to sell big budget titles.    Publishers are already happy with sales of the mid budget Wii titles so why woudl they assume their bigger budget Wii titles would sell less?   Bigger budget titles get bigger marketing and we know how that can help even lousy games sell well......I'm looking at you Kane and Lynch.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

Could GH4 sell be a 5 million seller on the Wii? GH3 sold almost 4 million on the PS2, and will end up selling 3 or on the Wii... I see no reason why the next GH won't sell more on the Wii than PS360 combined. The will most likely gain a huge hunk of those PS2 GH fans.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

How praytell have you come to that conclusion?

PS2 owners 'upgrade' to Wii or what?

I wonder how many 5 million sellers will the PS3 have, cause now Wii is a failure and a fad cause it doesnt have 5 million sellers coming from 3rd parties....

The PS2 believe it or not had the biggest casual fanbase last generation, thus the reason why all of the DDR type game all went to the PS2.

Also the fact that they were Buying GHIII on the PS2 means they did not not own a WiiPS360. If they had not upgraded yet I would assume they are not hardcore. The Wii is getting the bulk of casual game this generation, many of them will get a Wii. So when GH4 comes out the Wii verison Will sell much better. If the Wii version of GH3 would not have had so many supply problems last year(and sound problems) it would have sold even with the PS2 version.

Why on earth is the PS3 being brought up in this conversation at all.

I think the third party problem on the Wii is being over-exaggerated, there obviously is a first-party bias in the software sales, but third parties have yet to release much that is worthy of being bought (apart from niche titles like NMH which are hard to sell to the mainstream).

How many of them are third party?

doesn't rlly matter but the answer is 1
