Try and play every game that looks good to you with the goal of beating games. The scenario is possible and it doesn't help that games are so much longer than other media. There's games from 20 years ago I missed that I would one day like to try and play but man is the market getting flooded. Switch has thousands of indies, Steam has thousands per year. It's almost like we need the old Nintendo gold seal of quality in some form and whatever that looks like on the other platforms too.

Im just very picky with games tbh. Like, my backlog never grows bigger than 10 games, and it very rarely ever reaches that size. Even games i might be interested in at first very quickly lose my attention.

On the other hand, games I really like I replay a lot. Ive cleared Unicorn Overlord 5 times and that game released in March this year.

Count yourself lucky to be like that.

I think most of the people who post here even with little free time would still play enough games to sustain the industry as-is and eventually play through most of what they're truly interested in.

The problem is the large contingent of young people getting into gaming but playing only one title or a handful of them (Fortnite, GTA, etc.). The industry has never been so concentrated on a few heavy hitters as nowadays.

Yes and no. It’s great for consumers that there are so many games, from so many genres, built for audiences with many different skills and inclinations.

For completionists like myself, though, the sheer number of games is overwhelming. I want to play the best games of every single year, so I can properly rank, contextualize, and discuss them, but it’s simply impossible. There aren’t enough hours in the day.

Movie buffs have it easy. They can watch 30 movies in the time it takes me to beat one RPG

Not too many games. Too many AAA risk-averse games. Too many Gaas games. Too many yearly games. There needs to be more focus on games that focus on interesting and/or new ideas. Quality. Creativity in all facets of gaming while using tech from high to low to push creativity and innovations to the next step.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

For me, there's hardly any games. I grew up with NES, and from that era up to the PS2, there were legendary, industry-busting, mind-blowing games releasing almost constantly. You could not turn around without something dropping that would change your life.

Now it's just... eh?

My retro consoles get a lot of play, but that's about it.

I'm hoping whatever Nintendo or Sony releases next will change all that, but right now... nada.

Agreed. Compared to the 360/PS3 times, there are way more games. During the 360/PS3 era, I had to branch out and try new genres due to the lack of good games in my preferred genres. Now there are too many games in my favorite genre, I just stick to my guns.

For years I been wanting to play Witcher 3, for the last year I been wanting to play BG3. But I see no point when games that I know I will enjoy keep coming out. I am semi hoping for a drought soon so I can attempt Witcher 3.

Anyone who claims that there aren't enough video games available or scheduled either are playing on older consoles, are picky, or both.
If you play on PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series X/S, Switch, or PC you have a mountain of games to choose from on any one of these. Shoot, you have a mountain on mobile as well but those tends to be way simpler games.
There's not enough time in my life to play all the games I want to play (both released and upcoming). Yeah, I suppose money is the even bigger obstacle than time, but time is closer to money than you'd think.
According to my Exophase I've played about 6,006 hours (about 250 days). That doesn't include some Switch titles that it haven't tracked (limited Switch tracking) and all the games I've played that can't be tracked (older systems than PS4 and Xbox One). I've probably played video games for over 366 days (a year) straight if you tallied up my lifetime gaming. And still, there are hundreds of released games I want to play (at least) and many hundreds more I'm sure that will release in my lifetime that I want to play.

Lifetime Sales Predictions
