The opening ceremony had lady gaga but that was actually the tame part. There was also this naked blue guy that wasn't wearing anything and you could see his junk, also had drag queens in an obvious imitation of the last supper and they had it looking exactly the same way it is depicted in paintings.  I guess that they wanted to shock the world, well mission accomplished.

And you know that snoop was high as hell lol

I watched the rest of the performances last night. Was interesting while high, honoring Snoop lol. Ffwd through the parade to get the performances. But the Canadian broadcaster apparently couldn't stomach the blue guy. As soon as he came on, the footage cut away "Well, there is still the lighting of the Olympic fire coming up" cut to long commercial break lol. Cowards.

Then the horse boat on the Seine and the slow march with the Olympic flag took so long the recording cut short before the Eiffel Tower light show :/ Didn't get to see that.

The last supper drag queens bit had my teenage music, took me back to the past at least. Same music I used to dance to in night clubs as a teenager. No drag queens around back then though.

Yeah this 'new format' is a bit of a miss. A lot of chaos and a lot of time in between performances. It didn't flow, a lot disconnected segments.

Anyway they definitely managed to shock the CBC, quick cut away, his blue balls are hanging out. The announcers had already fallen silent during the whole last supper fashion show, finger on the trigger to cut it off lol.

lmao, i think that this was the craziest thing i've seen in a long time because it's whole point is to honor the olympics and the nations coming together in peace.  But it seems like a flippant joke or something.  Perhaps the people that planned the opening ceremony were on drugs themselves at the time.

Growing up in Europe it was not all that provocative to me. More like honoring French art/cinema. Yet I can see how it's shocking NA lol.

The culture difference when it comes to nudity and flamboyant expression is very wide.

The movie 'Cuties' came from France as well. https://www.cbc.ca/news/entertainment/netflix-cuties-backlash-1.5724482 and even won an award This film won Maïmouna Doucouré the Jury Award for Directing (World Cinema Dramatic) at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival.

But indeed, it wasn't honoring the Olympics all that much, nor showing much of the country as is usually the case in opening ceremonies. It was entertaining anyway, showing total freedom of expression. Now I wonder what the closing one has in store.

Celine Dion made it for me with a memorable performance. The Opening ceremony was unique from all the past game.

Didn't watch it myself, but the clips I have seen from the drag show portion were creepy on multiple levels. The blue Dionysus guy that looked naked in his blue undies that matched the body paint tone, the guy standing behind the underage girl with his testicle popped out of his undies, Marie Antoinette singing with her severed head in her arms. What was France thinking with that one?

For the most part the 2024 Opening Ceremony was horrible. There were some good parts but the whole thing just came off forced and not authentic.

There were also technical issues and the pacing felt off from one jumbled mess to another.

Quite frankly, if this is supposed to showcase French Culture, whomever staged or led this should be canned/fired. Really made the beginning of this year's Olympics off to a false start.

It’s good to see Celine has recovered somewhat from the syndrome that almost killed her a few years ago.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I've already commented on the various salacious things to see, so I won't go over that again. But I found it a bit odd that they would have someone looking like Marie Antoinette holding the decapitated head. It's like they want to celebrate not the person, but the execution itself. Was she that bad? Or are they making a joke about the things France has been known for?
