Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony State of Play on 30th May 2024 at 3pm PT

The fact that Astrobot doesn't work in VR is really a testament that Sony shouldn't make PSVR 3, they lack the will to support it. Rather see Capcom make a VR headset so that the RE games are playable in VR on all platforms.

For me Astrobot and Behemoth where the only good things shown at this State of Play. I don't particularly care about Monster Hunter, but its good for the fans I think.

Anyway since its a State of Play and not a showcase that's more than we usually get at these events.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Horror seems to be having a huge revival. Dead Space, RE franchise and now Until Dawn, Silent Hill, etc. So glad one of my favorite genres is getting some love.
I never played Until Dawn, looking forward to the remaster.

Didn't watch it, but Astrobot not coming to PSVR2 is a blow.

Oh well, money wins. It will definitely sell more copies as a flat game. Just disappointed they couldn't at least make it a hybrid game.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed by the lack of PSVR2-support from SIE.

PSVR1-games published by SIE in its first two years (first party + exclusives):

  • The Playroom VR
  • PlayStation VR Worlds
  • Driveclub VR (hybrid)
  • Super Stardust Ultra (hybrid)
  • Hustle Kings (hybrid)
  • Until Dawn: Rush of Blood
  • Here They Lie
  • RIGS: Mechanized Combat League
  • Star Strike Ultra VR
  • Starblood Arena
  • Farpoint
  • Wipeout: Omega Collection (hybrid)
  • No Heroes Allowed! VR
  • Gran Turismo Sport (hybrid)
  • The Inpatient
  • Bravo Team
  • Firewall Zero Hour
  • Astrobot Rescue Mission

PSVR2-games published by SIE in its first two years (unless Sony surprises us with some stealth releases until February):

  • Horizon: Call of the Mountain
  • Gran Turismo 7 (hybrid)
  • Firewall Ultra

No remastered PSVR1-exclusives (stuck on the old hardware), no VR-mode for the new Astrobot game, no VR-mode for Sackboy: A Big Adventure (PC version runs great with UEVR)...

Indeed. You could say Sony leaves the door open for 3rd party to make money (and has invested again in RE7 and RE4 to come to VR next to helping out other studios) but it is very disappointing they're not making true on their 'promise' of hybrid games for VR.

I don't regret buying PSVR2 though. Spend tons and tons of hours on it and still have a backlog of games I want to play, as well as plenty to look forward to. Just not from Sony. 3rd party support has been excellent the first year.

Yet also 3rd party support is staying away from big hybrid games. PSVR1 got Skyrim, Borderlands, Dirt Rally, Doom VFR, LA Noire VR Case files, Hitman 3 and many big games had VR demos or extras.

The excitement for VR is gone in the AAA industry. It didn't catch on the way they hoped, then the pandemic happened which first falsely increased the entertainment market which is now stalling or even shrinking back to its original stagnating curve.

PSVR2 is making lots of people discover PSVR1. On the PSVR subreddit more and more people are looking for PSVR1 advice to play all the great games from that library. It's a shame there is no BC or at least some way to use the new headset with the old tracking system. PSVR2 now mostly shares its games with Quest, and thus most games adhere to the lowest common denominator, the standalone capabilities of Quest. The games still look and play better on PSVR2 (lighting and resolution wise, 90 or 120fps native, actual VR controllers), but fidelity is a step backwards compared to PSVR1.

I wonder what it would have looked like without the pandemic. The current recession is the biggest factor VR stalled and has been pushed on the back burner.

I'm still planning on getting the PS5 Pro if it has benefits for PSVR2 titles. But if no benefits at all, then I won't bother. Perhaps the PC adapter for PSVR2 will do its magic. I'm not a fan of all the hassle that comes with PC gaming and VR mods, but Sony isn't bringing Hybrid games. UEVR is the only option.

Damn, I wanted to see Cory's new game!

Also wanted PC ports for TLOU 2 and Demon's Souls (Bloodborne won't happen lol)

Man Demon on PC would be amazing. I surprised it hasn't happened.

Nothing interesting for me personally, not that I expected anything anyways. Gonna be a while until we start getting those first party story driven bangers again.
Hope there was something there for other people.

Really like the look of astro boy. Only issue with it is way too much focus on references to other things, I'd rather the series start to stand on its own a bit more at this point.

I think Concord is going to be a lot of fun. Graphically looks great. Gameplay seems to be snappy like Destiny (ex-devs I believe), some interesting characters designs. I look forward to hearing impressions from the beta.

Astrobot looks like a ton of fun too, but I wish it was 2 player though. No biggie though.

Concord is just a knockoff of Guardians of the Galaxy with dated and tired Marvel writing. Overwatch gameplay and it's a dead game walking.
