Forums - Sales Discussion - FF7 Rebirth has reportedly sold half what Remake did in the same timeframe

Anyways maybe if people like you actually put their money where their mouth is and actually bought high budget games like FF7 Rebirth and FF16 Square-Enix wouldn't be running back to Nintendo on their knees and could instead prep for a dream $300 million dollar Final Fantasy 17 that's never gonna happen now. Too bad, so sad.

So many of these so called "visual showcases" that are not putting up big sales, almost as if the general market just isn't impressed by the same ol' sales pitch of pretty graphics.

Something clearly isn't lining up.

Agreed its annoying.  It's like the people who want high end hardware are old farts, mean while he will wet his pants if Nintendo actually released a powerful console.

Makes it even funnier when the Switch outsells all those super duper higher powered game consoles that you huff and puff so much about, yeah it's a sales forum in case you didn't realize.

You act like weak handhelds selling more then powerful consoles is  something it happened many times before. Personally I don't get the appeal of playing on the go and rather have better hardware.

Switch isn't going to just outsell "powerful consoles" it's going to outsell every console. All of them. Every single one.

You don't get the appeal, but that's not very surprising, you're not in touch with the actual market.

You're also misguided about the Switch as a hardware, it's not that weak for when it launched, I must've missed the memo when Game Boy Advance was 1/4th of a Playstation 2 or something and could run 3D games and handle ports of actual PS2 games. Switch 1 and Switch 2 will be very different from the Game Boy/DS/3DS lineage of systems, I don't think you're able to understand that.

What does switch out selling every console mean not much except that Nintendo hit gold with the switch. Remember if you combine ninetndo hamdhelds with ninetndo home consoles they have been out selling home consoles for multiple generations.

Switch for a home console was weak for hybrid it was fine but it was a generation behind ps4  graphically.

It's not a generation behind the PS4, if it was a generation behind it wouldn't be able to run PS4 games like DOOM, DOOM Eternal, Dragon Quest XI, Witcher 3, Nier, Diablo III, Persona 5, NBA 2K, FC Soccer, and a whole host of other games.

If you double the horsepower of a Switch it would be able to comfortably run basically any PS4 game without much fuss even as is it ended up with quite a few PS4 ports. If you double a DS or Wii or something ... do you get a machine that can run like PS3 games? Not even fucking close.

Switch is its own thing to the hardware industry, you don't seem to be able to wrap your mind around it and need to classify it with products like previous handhelds, which it doesn't really belong to.

Lol you named a few butchered ports, let Me see switch run red dead 2, resident evil 4, last of us 2, CoD most of the big third party didn't come cause switch would end up melting, those games look worse then 360 games on Switch come on now.

The gap is not that large considering the Switch has to run on battery. And sure several of those games probably could be ported, it's mainly the image quality that suffers with no DLSS quality image upscaling solution.

If Nintendo actually made a Switch Pro that was double the launch model Switch it would run most PS4 games with no fuss, that's completely a different ball park than systems like the Wii and DS that weren't even close to the other consoles of the time.

Personally I think we should wait till:

A) Switch 2 specs are confirmed
B) Switch 2 price is announced
C) See how well the Switch 2 does

Feels like people are getting ahead of themselves.

But back to the Final Fantasy Discussion... ps5 has what 55 million potential FF consumers? By going to xbox, Nintendo and PC, Square will increase their potential base by what? I'm guessing but 500%? Maybe more?

By that logic FF7 Remake should have sold millions on PC, it only sold about 1 million copies on PC.

Their problem is their fan base is aging, they need to invest in platforms like the Switch 2 and start rebuilding their fanbase up from the grassroots by getting younger people not an average user base that looks like this guy today:

This is going to take them a while too, it's not going to happen overnight where they magically increase sales by 300%. It's an age and demographic problem they have brought onto themselves by sticking only to Sony home consoles, home consoles (non-Nintendo ones anyway) in general are an aging demographic. Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter are big franchises in Japan, Final Fantasy used to be as big, only one of those three chose to be locked into Playstation exclusives and guess which one has a declining fanbase.

Supporting Switch is clearly a great idea.  I support it and like it.

But let us not forget about Steam...  which has 90,000,000 million active monthly users...  up 23,000,000 from last year....  and pushed 400,000,000 units of software last year.

Square's success is more than "Nintendo."  It is widespread support across the industry.  Steam is a must.
