Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Hogwarts Legacy on Switch finally unvieled

Wouldn't touch the game on the switch, personal preference. I'm not judging anyone. Some games aren't fit for mobile hardware, for me.  For others enjoy.

On a side note I thought the game was excellent. Really great.

It looks like a PS2 or early PS3 game. The differences are striking. I played it on PS5 and this almost feels like a different game atmospherically. And it's not open world. There's a load screen when entering Hogsmeade and all the shops there also have load screen. But I hope it's still amazing for new players who only has a Switch

I think you have rose glass memories of PS3 and for sure PS2 graphics. Hogwarts would be at least a late PS3/early PS4 on graphical department.

Regarding loading screens, the world map doesn't have loads (at least on PS5) but changing environments or fast travel do have some loading this doesn't make the game any less open world or sandbox in concept.

I'm very much impressed with how much they changed the game to make it run on switch.
Instead of just downgrading everything, it looks like they remade it all to fit the system.
Hopefully sales will back up their effort.

Open world is more about world/gameplay design then having load screens. Skyrim and Starfield are still open world even though there are load screens. Even Zelda has load screens for certain interior environments.

Yes but only the switch version has this problem. The original version there's no loading screen when entering different areas like Hogsmeade. Hogsmeade is like a zone in Switch version because of the loading screen. BoTW don't have loading screens for different areas, it's all accessible without a single load screen, except fast travel. But yes most open world games do have loading screens for interior environments like dungeons and buildings

It’s not a seamless Open World but it’s still an open world.

Dude I'm just pointing out the differences. It's clearly a big one. Switch version, when you enter Hogsmeade and I think all other large cities you have to load to get into them. They are like open areas or zones unlike the open world in the original version . Even the buildings/ shopsh ave loading screens

Saying it have an issue or need to enter spaces with loading and whatnot is fine, but that doesn't make it any less openworld. For me Yakuza is open world, although limited in scope, and there is loading when entering some spaces, this was changed just recently with SSD and the like making it possible to enter and leave stores without any loading.

I don't know. Most if not all games that are considered open world don't have loading screens when entering a town. It's mostly interior like entering dungeons or buildings that have loading screens in open world. My point was the long loading screens which the original version didn't have. To me because of the loading screens between areas that does make it less open world but if you still consider it open world then that's fine but it's not open world in the way like the original version was

Well I understand your point, but considering definition the city is an interior space like the dungeon or building when compared to the free roaming map. And well PS5/Series/PC may have more RAM and SSD so the loading may be almost 0 but Switch have other limitations.

But yes, it is understandable that you consider (and myself as well) we Switch version to impaired to consider if you have other options.

Hogwarts is open world. It shouldn't even be a discussion.
