I still remember starting this up for the first time, I was sick, it was just cozy playing something while in bed, with the joycons under the blanket. I was leaving on a long car trip with the family just a couple days later, and little did I know, this little indie game would last me the entire trip and then some. Dozens of hours came and went as I got sucked deeper and deeper into the world of Hallownest, each new discovery bringing with it a sense of awe, tension, wonder, fear. Everything was a surprise, and with each new surprise, this world only became richer and more interesting, each hint of lore piecing together the puzzle of what this kingdom is and was, each little bit of this game making me more and more invested in it, even if I was already absorbed from the very beginning.

Of course, it's been many years since then, and well... in those years, I've only gone and replayed this many times, because it's just so amazing, and it never gets old. No matter how many times you've gone through every little corner of Hallownest, it has a way of always making you feel like there's more just around the corner, there's still mysteries you've yet to discover, or maybe it's just the air of mystery this game creates. Just how a tiny team of three or so people managed to create an experience this incredible, this larger-than-life feeling, is honestly beyond me.

Now let's just get some Silksong news already, please?

Probably the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the word "masterpiece".

Shadow of the Colossus is very much that, because more than its qualities as a videogame, more than its beautiful visuals, its awe-inspiring music, more than the gripping tale of a young kid going to insane lengths to save someone he cares about on a misguided journey, more than any of its individual parts, this is a work of art. It feels like a generation-defining monumental piece, the kind that should be put in a museum, but instead it's on our TV screens to be experienced with a controller in our hands. Because having that controller in hands is how this work of art works. By having someone going through Wander's journey with him, maybe feeling awestruck by the incredible beasts he's faced with and taking them down with him, maybe even taking a sense of pride in the feat of slaying such creatures, with or without realizing how this is nothing more than a quest for revenge, a tale of misguided grief leading someone to cause far more harm than was initially done.

Ahem, sorry if that was kinda spoiler-y.

Videogames are always evolving, the industry is always trying to find the next breakthrough, the next achievement, the next standard of quality. Shadow of the Colossus is beside all that. It will always stand on its own as a timeless work of art.

I like red.

The color of our blood. Our heart. The color of fire. Of protest, of fighting for what's right. The color of communism.

Ahem.

I've noticed this year that red is a color I gravitate towards. It's my favorite color of course, it's always been, though I didn't always admit that myself. I like red clothing, I love my red shoes. I bought a red 3DS and half-red Switch (heh). My room's walls are painted red, the football club I support is red. Hell even when there's two opposing brands that dominate a specific market, like say Marvel vs. DC or Coke vs. Pepsi, I always like the red one. I've started feeling like red gives me power - when I'm feeling down, being surrounded by red makes me feel stronger. It makes me believe in myself. Even the people I strongly connect with, those closest to me, they also have red as their favorite color, they also draw power from it.

It's no wonder I love this game. Persona 5 is unashamedly red. Red in how it criticizes the coldness of society. Red in how it wants us to believe in ourselves and fight for what's right. Red in how... well, maybe it's not quite communist, but certainly in how it questions many facets of capitalism. Red in how it always makes it about "us vs. them", which maybe it's not the most sensible way of looking at the world, but wow do we all need to release some of the anger we have in these times, with how many shitty people are out there abusing their position of power to make the world shit for everyone else. Red in how it's about what's in our blood, in our hearts. And the burning feelings we need to let out against those who wronged us and think they can get away with it, that society will turn a blind eye out of fear of change. Red in how it's fearless, in how we won't turn a blind eye, in how life will change. Persona 5 is red. My heart is red.

Top five time! Hallowed ground.

#4 - Remade in 2023, this action-adventure game reinvented the staples of the franchise, for better or worse

Resi 4

That’s exactly right!

UnderwaterFunktown is already the winner for my guessing game, but anyhow, we keep going. I... might as well hint all of the games left, there aren't exactly very many surprises here.

#4 - The first of two games in this series to focus its marketing on the sky, when most of the game takes place on the surface.
#3 - There are more owls in this sequel, and yes, they all continue to live highly traumatic lives.
#2 - One of this game's ports infamously used an image from IGN as its cover. You can even see the IGN logo on it!
#1 - They made a whole metal album for this game just to make the opening cutscene more believable.

2: Okami

1: Uh, Guardians of the Galaxy? I think I heard something about a metal album in relation to it.

Yeah, both correct. Here's the album by the way, it's actually pretty good:

#3 - Ori and the Will of the Wisps?
