I'm glad they're still selling a version with disc drive included.
I'll stick with the one I have, it's bulky but otherwise works perfectly fine. Don't fix/replace what's not broken :)

I originally called the first model the ugliest console since Atari Jaguar. This thing makes the original look as nice as the SEGA Dreamcast by comparison. Sticking with my launch model. If my current one breaks down I would buy the disc slim and a second disc drive as backup.

Well there's not much for me here, it seems. All the profit goes to Sony, and I get very little if any of the advantages. I mean it's smaller, but was that really the reason I haven't bought one yet? Not really. Makes sense for Sony, but pretty despicable if you ask me.

This all but confirms that the PS5 Pro is on the way as well.

Because the original reporting on this from Tom Henderson mentioned 3 devices:
- Playstation 5 with a detachable disc-drive ✅
- Playstation Portal ✅
- PlayStation 5 Pro
Hard to believe he guessed even one of those correctly. Let alone two out of three.

Are people asking for an SSD expansion card?
SSDs that are PS5 compatible are currently less than half the price of the Expansion cards. I don't see many people asking for one.
I am not surprised that it isn't really a Slim version, but more of an... Unfat PS5.
What is surprising though, is that Sony sticks with their prices for the different models despite their fiscal year target. Perhaps they are doing it for the purpose of a major marketing campaign for Black Friday where the perception of the discounts will then be bigger than they really are. Or they've given up on their target already and will confirm as much in their next fiscal report.
Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Yeah, as great as it would be to have a simple plug and play solution, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having a broader selection of SSDs with varying speeds and storage at a much cheaper price with the minor inconvenience of removing the side plate and manually installing the SSD. Sony learned their lesson with the Vita when it comes to proprietary storage lol.
The Series X/S expansion cards, you're paying a large premium for convenience. Not to mention, only 2 options to choose from in terms of manufacturers, so there's not enough competition to bring down prices in any meaningful way.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind
A pretty underwhelming revision but the Pro next year should be more exciting assuming that's real. I'm surprised they're still gonna sell a model that has a disc drive included instead of just the one with the optional drive you have to buy to encourage further digital adoption though I guess they wanted to play it safe. The digital one is bad value in the US so the split is probably gonna favour the other model even more compared to Europe.

TBF. Sony consoles have always been good about storage since PS3 allows users to upgrade with standard storage options.

So the PS5 finally became a normal sized console.
In that case, the PS5 "no slim" moniker suits it well.
Wonder if the PS5 Pro will give it a new layer of fat once again haha.
But yeah, appart from the fact that I'm glad they kept a model with the disc drive, the pricing of the digital model and the optional disc drive is looking like puuure robbery.
