Oh hey, while we're on the subject of movie-based games from 1993, I think it may be worth mentioning that this was also the year the original (and best) Jurassic Park came out in theaters and that the games based on that movie were also hits. Especially the Sega Genesis version, which uniquely was a side-scrolling action game that allowed you the option to play as a raptor. You read that correctly. I got to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming a dinosaur, and not the wimpy leaf-eating kind. I guess that was considered too edgy for the Nintendo audience. (Is it all coming back to you now as to why the Genesis was the more popular platform before 1994?)

The developers of that game, BlueSky, went on to create the Vectorman games for Sega a couple years later.

Genesis does what Nintendon't.

Exactly, lol.

The race for 2nd between Link's Awakening, Mega Man X, and Secret of Mana is intense. Since my preferred game of PSIV is seeminlgy out of it, I'm just gonna grab my popcorn for this one

Voted Doom because of it's sheer influence but still think Sim City 2000 is the best city building sim ever made.

Definitely the Sim City game I spend the most time with and best city building game.
And you could import Simcity 2000 maps into Sim Copter (1996) and do rescue missions in your own cities!

I'm starting to appreciate these older games more and more for what the devs could do with the UI.

I'm struggling hard trying to play BG3. Initially we wanted to play it in split-screen together however I can barely read the UI elements from the couch while my wife can't make out the tiny text at all. Splitting the screen in half, not a chance lol. You can only scale the dialog font, the UI remains a mystery from the couch. The inventory page is so small I have no clue what's what. I keep dying because I can't make out the options in the crowded radial wheels. Our 65" TV is too small, got to move the couch to 4ft (from 12ft) to be able to play this game.

I guess I can try playing it with the PSVR2 headset... Or maybe better fire up the old 1080p projector again and play it on 92" screen from 10ft away. This is piss poor for 2023. The game looks amazing, the environment that is. I want to play it so bad, but can't read any of the instructions. By the time I'm halfway through deciphering a tutorial tip it already disappears again. Maybe I should try get a refund and play it on PC instead, at least I can move my head in to read the tiny text. /Disappointed.

Play it on PC, avoid the PS5 version. Now what can we play in split-screen nowadays :/ There goes our plan for winter game fun.

I have that issue with some games, but that's why I play in my bedroom where I have a movable gaming chair I can move closer to the TV if needed. You can also potentially plug the PS5 into your PC monitor.

BG3 can be played online co-op. Not sure if it has cross play, but if you have it on two systems that's probably the best way to play it with someone.

Voted for DOOM.
But Rock 'N Roll Racing was one of the funniest coop experiences I have ever played. Maybe I would rather vote for it if there was an option.
NBA Jam, MK2 and Syndicate are also among favorites in my list.

Yeah after seeing the UI I can't imagine playing this in split-screen. I was so looking forward to playing this together on the couch, big disappointment they didn't consider couch play at all. I don't have a PC monitor (well really old ones, 4:3 1280x1024) since I use laptops nowadays. Cross play might work if I take back the PS5 my oldest is using and connect it to my old 52" 1080p TV which still sits next the 65" 4K TV. Move the couch closer so we can both see lol.

At least the digital version (was no physical version available) allows playing on two PS5's at the same time.

Last night I played it on the PSVR2 headset which actually looks a lot better than I thought it would. Better than my old 1080p projector (which needs a new $800 lamp if you can even still get the old lamps, so image is kinda dim now), but the lenses add chromatic aberration to the picture outside where you are looking, which kinda stands out with text at the bottom when looking straight ahead. Bigger problem with cinematic mode is that the sound only works on the headset headphones, unlike VR games which can play on the amp. Why Sony ugh. Anyway moving the couch up is much more comfortable, just need to clean beneath the couch again. (Always a treasure trove of stuff that ends up underneath it lol)

Alternatively, if you still have a PS4, you can download the game for free on that (since you bought the PS5 version, you can also download the PS4 version for free. It's like this with almost all games.) if you don't want to take back the extra PS5 from your child.

For games on the list, Mega Man X.

For games released in NA in 1993, Mortal Kombat II.

I do need to get around to playing Secret of Mana. I never got to play that one back in the day.
