I actually believe TOTK will outsell SMBW in the end, but that SMBW gets to 20m faster due to the holidays (potentially beating SV's record). It's possible for TOTK to beat it lifetime, just like how BOTW beat Odyssey lifetime, despite the latter opening with a lead.
it's interesting that some people think TotK will have better legs than SMBW. if anything, i see it flipped. i think TotK will outsell SMW in the first week or two but, SMBW will reach 20 million before TotK as well as sell more lifetime.
TotK, to me, seems like it could possibly be more front-loaded as people were already tipped off to the fact that Zelda is the "new" franchise to fiend over, so people rushed out for the sequel. i don't see the game matching the legs of BotW at all for that reason.

odd to claim SMBW won't be quality when it hasn't even released. if you don't like 2D mario, you could just say that.

This reads like a shitpost and I'm not sure if it was intentional or not

It can have quality, but surely it's just another 2D platformer using almost the same mechanics of games from the 90s. The appeal is nostalgia. 2D Mario is just way too stale.

Tears of the Kingdom can have quality, but surely it's just another open-world game using almost the same mechanics and the same world map and the same graphics as a beloved classic. The appeal only isn't nostalgia because that's not a term people associate with things from 2017.
There isn't much hype for the new mario game, so totk wins.

If that's how you see it, then sure. You are entitled to have this opinion.

I just think criticising Mario Wonder for being "nostalgia and repetition" is really funny because Tears of the Kingdom is literally repetition.
