Did Mat piscatella say that all consoles are down year on year?

He did. This is from the media release report. "Declines were experienced across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Switch."

So depending on who drops more Xbox could lead the month.

In future months? I suppose they have a decent shot in September with Starfield if there's nothing special going on for the PS5.

I was talking this month. September yes Xbox have a good shot for first, the rest of the months it is uncertain.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

With the full dollar figure for PS5 this year and the increase YOY this will give great precision for VGC estimate for USA.

And if PS5 and Series were very close last year and this year they are 1st and 3rd with all dropping, then this month was likely all very close.

Don't think so. Spider man Special edition PS5 console releases on September 1st.

But Xbox could have a very big pent up demand due to the big dry period. So September is going to be a very upward month for both and Xbox could end up ahead. I'm more curious to Holidays if we are going to see the first one without constraints and how much both will reach and of course if Switch will keep surprising everyone.

So August? The PS5 has been discounted at some retailers this month, so I would expect better sales than in July.

Didn't know it was that early before the game, a little weird really. But yea with that it will be tougher, I would probably expect PS to take it, but anything is possible.

NPD / Circana July 2023 report is out now. Mat Piscatella is stuck at home and not able to go to the office due to the hurricane that hit So Cal. Hopefully will have more information released tomorrow.

All three consoles are down year-on-year. We had leaks for July 2022, which had PS5 at 301K and XS at 247K.

It occured to me that if the PS5 was lower than 300k it was probably a relatively close month to match the $292 mil hardware revenue. At least closer than it's been for a while.

Just got some new info from an article by Games industry. biz regarding US console sales of 2023.
Note- it is mentioned in the article that the data is from Circana (NPD).

"On a comparative basis, PlayStation 5 is now trending 5% above PlayStation 4 and 87% ahead of PlayStation 3 in time aligned units sold life-to-date, while Xbox Series trails Xbox One by 10% yet leads Xbox 360 by 6%.
Switch has also continued to perform strongly in 2023, helped by the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In fact, the US lifetime sales of Switch hardware finally surpassed those of Wii in the US market during July 2023. Switch lifetime sales now trail Xbox 360 by less than one million units, and PlayStation 2 by fewer than five million."

Thought this might be helpful for the estimates.

Somehow NSW has held better in US than Japan.

Famitsu overtracked NSW 2022 a lttle bit, so its not perfect. But Japan July YTD NSW Units are -8%, while US is only -2%.
