Too bad for every good game their are 50 crappy ones. |
As much as I like VGChartz, I must be honest. I'm not too interested in the community. Most (I'd say a good 70% of the people here) are too caught up in the fanboyism and politics of gaming, and are mostly just people waiting to ravenously insult another user on the forums. I tried participating in the forums but rather than discuss it seems most of you would rather tear other people down. Why is it necessary to insult everyone who thinks differently than you? Also, not everything here is a fanboy conspiracy. I see the word fanboy here than I do on most forums out there. I'm sorry, I don't want to be a part of a community that's so negative towards everyone all the time. I'd rather go to a place where the people of a forum are more willing to discuss and step away from personal attacks any time someone disagrees with them. I just can't take it anymore.
So I ask, respectfully, that you don't add me. I'll more than likely respond to respectful messages but don't count on me being on the forums too much and don't count on me accepting your friend request.

is that why they made the Gameboy Micro?

People did buy many PS2s because their originals did break, but that's an argument that's not helping Gamecube or Xbox as people were still willing to shell out money on the weaker console. And yes, the library just stomped a mudhole in the competition.
Funny, they were plagued by such problems, yet I still have my launch PS2. Works great for me and never had a problem with it. My Xbox360 on the other hand...
My pokemon brings all the nerds to the yard. And they're like, "You wanna trade cards?" Damn right, I wanna trade cards. I'll trade this, but not my charizard.
| Gballzack said: Arcturus you're living under a rock then. The Ps2 is infamous for its failure in quality. - the original Red light of doom - The Mechanical eye that had to be recalibrated everytime a new disc format was inserted resulting in a hastened burn out of the drive system. - The vertical stand option which Sony had to later retract saying that the PS2 shouldn't be played vertically because it could cause it to not read the disc or damage it. One of the signiture features of the PS2, admited to by Sony themselves to be a failure. - Sony's attempt at the Blue Disc which ruined countless PS2s. - Plastic drive parts that over time wore down resulting in the drive not working. - The DVD and CD functions only have limited functionality on many consoles. - Overheating issues which got worse in the slims. - The slims not being compatible with the Hard Drive and other peripherals required for certain online games. It was so riddled with problems that console repair shops and used games stores had to stop taking them because it wasn't worth the effort. Many people who had either voided the warranty or had the warranty expire were forced to buy new ones. It was not a well built system. And the fact people kept buying it when it broke doesn't prove how good a system it was, it just proved how good the games were. The system was terrible. The PS2 was probably one of the worse built consoles in recent history challenged only by the xbox. It's game library was phenomenal though and with reverse compatibility it was a shoe in. Listen if you want to play the "show me stats" game, that's fine but all you're doing is just covering your ears and telling yourself what you want to hear when everyone else knows for themselves the truth that the PS2 was a junk heap. Hell it was in the news on CNN about the massive waves of defective units in the initial launches. Anyone at a game store can tell you it was a poorly built system. The PS2 thrived on hype and the monoply established by the PS1, as a console alone it was a trainwreck. |
I understand that the PS2 had some quality issues...I'm not ignoring this or denying it. I just want to know how widespread this quality issues were. If the failure rate was 25% of all consoles sold then yes it was poorly built. But if were talking about a failure rate of 0.05% then I would consider that well within normal limits. It would also be nice to get the failure rate stats on the x-box and GC to compare them.

id guess about 80 mil bought the ps2 just they bought it more than 1 time

That is the same like the Wii now....

@ Konnichiwa: Don't know how Wii quality control issues are in Germany but they're fine everywhere else.

The Gameboy Micro is just a new version of the Gameboy Advanced, its not a new Gameboy handheld and came out roughly the same time as the DS. It wasn't meant to continue the Gameboy line, it was just a more convenient version of the GBA.
