Insane sales! Never expected that from the worst console genn i ever lived true

Nintendo were on their own about the console generation and timing since the Wii, and I think neither Microsoft or Sony are making their decisions about when to launch next gen on when Nintendo releases it. So I think Switch 2 launch is irrelevant for them in context of the time of releasing their hardware. Microsoft aren't really a threat anymore, and unlike 20 years ago, I don't think Sony will care much about them as well, when it comes to the time of releasing the next gen. Also everyone talks how lately games and game development has gone from 1-2 years to 5-6-7 years, and has gotten so much expensive than before, that's also why we have 1/3 if not less of the games for the same period of time compared to any of the previous generations. And on top of that you are saying Sony will launch their next gen just 2 years after their PS5 Pro ? In a time where there are no games, and the development takes so much time, where we can't have a proper gen like before and are needed something like 10 years, for the generation to have finished form of console generation, in terms of games, both quantity and quality, you are saying PS6 will release just 2 years after the PS5 Pro ? When even back in 2016, this state of gaming was so much better and closer to what have been about the last couple of generations in terms of development and software, they will now risk it, and release almost barely any improvement (since even GPUs now have bare improvements over previous gens and they too started lifecycles of 2+ years, which were always around 1 years) ? Absolutely not. I am more inclined to believe and vote that the generation will prolong up until 2030 (something that is needed more than ever now or at least it would make sense more than ever), than PS6 releasing in 2026, and with that shorten the whole gen. |
tbh that could also happen imo. We could have sony release in 2028/2029 with a hybrid handheld ps6 with a minor spec upgrade. Switch 2 which will likely be ps4- series s specced, will probably prolong the gen too with ps5 and pro being the most powerful consoles with the most market share, at least until a new xbox. I do expect them to release soon tho, because series is about to stop selling, and that would call for a new product. That's why a 2026 xbox could force sony to drop earlier than 2028.
For the digital thing I think it's more likely that the PS6 will offer physical than be digital only but they'll absolutely deprioritize physical. Something like the PS5 Pro where you have to buy a disc drive separately but even more expensive is what I expect. The PS6 is probably gonna be expensive enough that many people wouldn't bother spending extra for it resulting in most PS6's out there not having a disc drive attached.
I expect Sony to make two models: A home console, and a handheld. But I can't say when the handheld will launch and whether it's going to be a PS5 or a PS6. Generations as we knew them are dying in real time, the AAA PC game that you're happily playing on your 5090 rig can be played on the SteamdDeck in low settings. This may get worse in the next generation unless developers suddenly start making games that aren't scalable to hardware with a tiny fraction the power of a mid range PC.
The handheld Playstation will be digital only. The home console will launch in digital and disc editions, but Sony will push the digital edition more this time. Ditching physical this early would be a dangerous and stupid move. Some single player games on PS still sell more physical than digital when bundles aren't accounted for, as long as they remain widely available in stores.

Thats what i mean! 70%+ of their sales are digital! PS5Pro does not even have a DD bundle! DDs get produced in limited quantities! The later PS6 launches the higher the chances they skip the DD entirely! But we know PS5 was past the first part of its Lifecycle by the end of 2023 as Sony stated themselfes, the low quantity of DD production together with the fact that Sony discontinued BD totally contradicts your arguments.
I dont want PS5 be a successful console or sell much more, simply because the PS5 is semi-failed console with so little true new gen games, especially good quality games on all fronts, and if PS5 is a successful console in term of sales numbers, it will set up a very bad precedent; the resulting idea is that there's no need for good games for people to buy it. The same with Xbox Series. I have both of them and they feel like walking dead bodies. One of my friend is selling his PS5 and another didnt turned on his Xbox Series X for some months now.
All of my games that I played on PS5 are also on PS4 and the only native PS5 games that I bought(just two) I only got them because they were on big sale.
There is almost nothing new and worthy on PS5 and XS.
This gen is so empty, so sad.

The PS5 is very successful and deservedly so.
PS6 will have a lot of PS5 games as well, no reasons to not do so, the same reason PC games don't run only in very expensive and very modern hardware.
PS5 games having PS4 games means nothing if said games are great, GT7 for example has a PS4 version, and the PS5 version is more impressive than the Xbox X only Forza Horizon... Horizon Forbidden West PS5 version is hardly matched by any other game as well... having a PS4 version simply don't matter, those are amazing PS5 games.
Diminishing returns also means games will not have as many reasons to skip platforms, if they do it's more likely due to marketing/strategic reasons rather than not being possible to have an older gen version.
Nintendo also said they will keep the Switch alive as long as there is demand, and that is a ridiculously less powerful machine.
You'll have to get used to it.

Unfortunally this is true. No true exclusives. Nearly every game gets ported to PC or is cross gen. Only fanteenies get exciting about that. Unfortunally if you say the truth you get moderated. Its different ob Youtube! But no one can deny the fact that there are far less exclusives on both sides in gen 9 than gen 8. This digitalisation insanity needs to stop! This is why Nintendo is so important. They are the only ones to stand against this nonsense!
Given that Sony shifted from traditional games to live service, they no longer are one of the good ones that deserve success when it comes to gaming. Just another GAAS company like all others, except the holdouts like Nintendo that still make traditional games.
