Yep. Was going to say the same but add $300 to $350 price point and BC. Keep it simple. The switch was a success.

The VR idea has some merit, I think. It would obviously not be as advanced as PSVR, but for casuals it would be plenty serviceable, not to mention a whole lot cheaper. A big problem with VR is that it is very expensive (PSVR2 is 550$, on top of the cost of the PS5 itself), rendering it inaccessible to many people. Switch 2 including it out of the box for only ~400 $ would greatly expand the market for VR.
My reasons for why I think VR isn’t right for the Switch 2 is mostly because of price for cutting edge tech. While labo was creative, it was a small niche product. The cutting edge VR tech is going into hardware that is substantially more highly priced than video game console hardware. Right now, the direction is more toward multimedia and professional application usage, and those are going to be substantially better for video game software than the older model VR sets.
Nintendo’s “secret sauce” has always been about doing cutting edge stuff that costs very little: the NES, SNES, N64, and Wii all had cutting edge controllers that changed the way we play games. The reason the N64 failed wasn’t because of that, it was because the game cartridges were too expensive for consumers and developers; consequently leading to fewer games at high prices.
Maybe I lack imagination, but I don’t see how Nintendo could get a VR headset that would excite me for anywhere near the price that would be acceptable for a video game console. Don’t get me wrong, if Nintendo released a 1000-5000 USD console with cutting edge AR/VR tech and decked out with extraordinary power and such, I’d buy it—but I’d be one of 1-4 million people who’d buy it. And I’d be incredibly worried about support.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Isn't the expectation that it will be around base PS4? Haven't heard PS4 Pro, let alone above it.
Since it has such a small form factor, overheating would be a big issue.

Do you mean the 3D effect? It had a slider on the side where you could turn it off, so I don't think it was much of an issue?

But adding in 3D made the system more expensive and they had to use a bunch of processing power to support 3D meaning the system was much less powerful than it would have been if they had left 3D out. It was a gimmick that, admittedly was fairly cool, but didn't matter that much and 3D screen were just a fad for a couple years right around that time and Nintendo ended up with an expensive and at the same time needlessly underpowered system just to have this effect that didn't actually improve games at all.
As for VR. Nintendo will obviously not do a legit VR headset. VR is fairly niche, it would require a peripheral that probably costs as much as the system itself. What they COULD do is do one of those drop-in headsets where you just drop the Switch2 screen into the headset and it splits the screen in whatever way to give a VR effect. That's a poor man's VR. It's been done for mobile phones. So I mean this is a possibility, but I don't see Nintendo bothering with it. I doubt the headset would sell more than a few million so probably not worth the software investment that Nintendo and game makers would have to make to let their games work with in VR.
Also pretty sure for even that drop-in style VR to be decent you need a decently high res screen so screen would probably need to be 1080p and I doubt Switch 2 will have that.
I'd rather see them put effort into interesting SW ideas rather than make a mediocre attempt at VR.
Interesting Rumors🧐
No mention of gimmicks.
Last edited by Oneeee-Chan!!! - on 03 August 20238 inch sounds nice. 512gb storage sounds real nice (and also sounds very unlikely given Nintendo's history, I'd expect either 128 or 256).
LCD doesn't sound great. I mean its fine, I would just expect next gen to do OLED considering they did an OLED this gen. Hopefully its at least got a resolution upgrade to like 1080p if LCD so its literally not just the same screen tech that's in the 2017 Switch cuz that would be ridiculous. LCD suggests to me they want to make sure their system hits at no higher than $350.
1080p LCD would improve a VR mode for Switch 2 significantly over Labo VR for the current Switch.
My favorite part is this.
Nintendo’s next-generation Switch gaming console has a peak output power of 28.6W when plugged in and 11W in portable mode.
