Think I'm almost done with FF16. Despite being a huge JRPG fan, not the biggest FF fan tbh. But, to me definitely one of the best stories so far for FF. Will give my extended thoughts/review score later.

Feel like I've been neglecting my PS5 for the xbox so I need some obscure JRPG recommendations. Looking for JRPGs not found on xbox (shouldn't be that hard..) and those with English dub (don't like reading).

Going through the youtube The Gaming Shelf for recs in the mean time.

Only one so far I haven't played but want to is Monark. Hopefully there is more.

Bummed about no Eternights physical, but that is also wishlisted; two games in total.

Off the top of my head, I can't really think of any on PS4. There's a ton on PS4 though, Reverie (there's a PS5 version to boot) is coming out next Firday. I know you said you don't like playing with no dub but maybe make an exception for Trails to Azure and Trails from Zero.

Well, if DQ 12 is the FF 6 of the franchise it means we are getting the best RPG of the generation so I'm all for it!!

Off topic, how is FF VI on Switch and it compares to other releases? I'm thinking of replaying older FFs after XVI, I have a playtrough of XIII I want to finish, and also want to replay VI and IX. I have IX on Switch, bought some years ago and played for like 5 hours before stopping to play another thing (I think it was Animal Crossing launch)

FFVI on Switch is great - the PS4 version is pretty much the same, only difference is the PS4 ver has trophies while the Switch version has the ability to play it portable.

The Pixel Remaster version (specifically on Switch and PS4) is the best version, even better than the PC version mainly because it includes additional QoL features such as "No encounters" option and 2x/4x EXP and Gil bonuses (so you dont have to grind as much).

Additional QoL features include a map that shows where treasure chests are so you dont have to mindlessly explore around (this only works if you use full screen map, not the mini map) and Auto-battle (a first time feature for FF1-6).

Other than that, different visual design, remixed music and new animations.

The only thing that Pixel remasters lack that previous versions had were the extra bonus dungeon and extra summons which were introduced in FFVI Advance and re-used in FFVI Mobile remake.

Its not a deal breaker but loses points imo for the lack of the extra content (which I had a blast doing when I played the GBA version - currently playing the PC version of the mobile remake right now lol).

I rather have QoL and avoid abusive grind than extra dungeons in a very big game even more when it is a 6 games collection

I have very little experience with the Ratchet and Clank games. I played part of that PS4 one and didn't think much about it. Just kinda meh. I need a game to lighten the tone after FF16 and Rft Apart is there on PS+ Premium so I started playing it. Ok, this game is flat-out gorgeous. Most impressive PS5 game I have seen. This is the kinda thing I want to see more of when using new hardware power. While pretty the real thing here is the rift hopping and how instant it is. This is what I was talking about before in the Consoles Too Powerful rant. Using the new hardware power to create something imaginative but also new mechanics not possible before. Nintendo has always done that and lovely to see that philosophy done here. Such a contrast to something like Cyberpunk 2077 where it just used the extra power to make a larger same old bland open city AAA game that does nothing different. New. Unique. Or even better than games in the genre before. In many ways, it does them worse. CP2077 is just a bigger box of slightly frostbitten old frozen dinner. It's still edible. Will fill you up but it's not good either.

Rift Apart has by far been my favorite PS exclusive this gen. Which is why I'm double dipping when it gets its PC release by this time next month. It'll be great to see how far Nixxes will be able to push the visuals.

Literally was a Pixar movie in motion with that level of emotional weight to it while including some pretty cool mechanics. What also really got me was the combat on the DualSense. Every weapon felt fun and unique on the controller. It all made sense to me after that.

The game just like a modern take on a PS2 era game. And it felt great!

I only downloaded it real quick to see how it look and it's incredible how good it looks. Not sure when I'll fit it into my schedule since the second half of this year is just  stacked but I will be playing that game eventually.

Yeah PS4 has a ton even a good amount that have dubbed. Reverie gonna be a day 1, and nah to those other trails games. Reading blows.

Rift Apart was awesome! Might be number one or two overall for me. Wish it was a little longer though tbh. Like two hours. Loved Rivet, hopefully they make more R&C games and not just Marvel licensed content.

Same, which is why I bought them again and played it on Switch lol

Aside from the GBA/mobile remakes - I cant see myself playing or wanting to play the older versions of FF1-6 anymore (older versions being NES, SNES, PS1 versions). The Pixel remaster version is the best experience you'll get.

(They'll likely make a Pixel remaster definitive edition series in the next anniversary time - with the bonus dungeons is what I am guessing they'll do lol)
