Yeah I say contrarian because looking at some of the more recent video's (from last year) are a bit overboard and opinions that vary so much which goes against the tide. A lot comes accross as someone who's feels quite jaded about gaming in general. Though Sterling may be right in a lot of cases, other takes are just overly negative. Sometimes you gotta step back and enjoy games for what they are instead of focusing a lot of the 'bad' side of things. For the debates, clicks or whatever. Guess its her shtick after all. Its just cba to watch those reviews because you know she's going to be nitpicking on silly things that largely don't matter.
Not played TOTK so can't comment on that. But calling FFXVI not an FF is the most recent disingenuous and troll-bait thing Sterling said.. and going from that not worth bothering with.

I think what gets me the most is her genuine opinion that you should feel bad for enjoying games made by bad publishers. She's never come outright and said it but so many of her videos come across as some variation on the idea that these companies suck and you shouldn't support them, and she often says something to the effect of 'if you still enjoy these games knowing that the companies suck, then you are contributing to the problem."
And it got to be the worst for Hogwarts Legacy.
I say this as a queer as fuck nonbinary borderline trans person...Enjoy the fucking game. JKR is terrible but if you boycotted any product that had someone immoral at the helm you'd literally never be able to enjoy anything. Live your life. Enjoy what you want to enjoy. My trans sister says the same thing. "Fuck JKR but Harry potter is still great and a huge part of my childhood". Don't be held prisoner to performatively outraged 'allies'. Like, if you don't wanna buy the game becuase you don't want your money going to JKR that's fine, I 100% get that, but don't dare chastise people for enjoying a game just becuase you don't wanna support it.
And Sterling was at the front of that moronic boycott. Outright saying you're anti-trans if you buy the game. Like, no. shut the fuck up. And stop being so goddamn smug about everything. Your points aren't as good as you think they are.
**Edit** Also, the whole 'this game doesn't feel like Final Fantay' argument is so insanely bad. Like, by what metric? The lack of turn based battles? 15 didn't have turn based battles and nobody's complaining about that. Okay, some people did but not with this level of hatred. The whole thing about FInal Fantasy is that it regularly updates and changes with each iteration; action RPG is the next logical progression of that and I think they did a fantastic job. IT's an Action-RPG now, not a turn-based one, and that's completely fine.
I'd actually argue XVI is the most 'final-fantasy-esque' game we've got since 9. their argument about it 'not being final fantasy' when the whole concept is that each FF is different and unique with a few linked themes shows that it's not about what is or isn't Final Fantasy, it's about them whining they didn't get exactly what they wanted.
Arguing with people about games is so exhausting.

Bought two copies thanks to Amazon...
Deluxe edition and a digital version. Sales seems pretty good when you account for it's only on PS5, and not PS4 with its much bigger install base. You got what, TotK, Hogwarts, Star Wars, RE, and then FF in terms of sales?

I did the same thing. Got me the digital copy for actual use/play and the physical deluxe edition for collector's purposes. I have mostly migrated over to digital exclusively, only buying physical for a handful of games I want for the collection/shelf. Mostly exclusives, regardless of brand. I have to pick up stuff like Ragnarok, Forbidden West, Rift Apart, Returnal, etc.
