Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation Nation |OT| Playing Astro Bot on the Horizon Until Dawn

Just booted up Playstation +, looks like Stray is leaving Playstation + Extra next month. If you were planning on playing it, you have a few weeks to do so or you will need to purchase it.

I'm not going near Jim Sterling. Kinda forgot he existed years ago. Prefer to keep it that way.

*Stephanie Sterling

You can hate her all you want, no need to deadname/misgender her.

When did Jim Sterling changed to Stephanie Sterling?

Rarely every watched any content because I didn't like it at all, but I remember during BotW release that was still not the case. I clearly remember people hating on Jim Sterling because of a 7/10.

Wasn't for your post I still would not have known, wow.

Damn, that difficulty spike when you fight the last fighter in Arcade mode for Soulcalibur V (PS3).

Also "Extra" mode in Arcade just changes your PoV lol

I'm a bit more than halfway done with playing all the characters in Arcade mode.

16 out of 28.

10 hours in so far.

Once I'm done with the rest of the 12 characters, I'll wrap it up as done and will play Ratchet and Clank Into The Nexus next.

---

Also made it to mission 14 in Vergil Playthrough in Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition (PS4).

23 hours in.

Vergil is so OP - mowing down the bosses and not even in demon form.

They came out as non-binary in 2020.

But they never really changed the name of their channel.

Yeah I gave up on Sterling. Too negative on reviews and contrarian for the sake of it. And (like others said) a lot of trolling as well. Best stick to reviewers that center towards your tastes and go from there.

Oh yeah, she hasn't gotten better.

But like I said she does some truly great and important work exposing games media and working conditions and the like. The good she's done DOES counterbalance the trolling but I do not go to her for her hot takes or her gaming opinions. She's clearly just being contrarian or amplifying bad takes. Her existence in the games journalism sphere is an overall net positive but holy hell she's so bratty and immature.

Like, she gave Tears of the Kingdom a 7/10 specifically to reignite the drama over the Breath of the Wild 7/10 she gave back when that game came out. She even made a point to say 'if they haven't learned from their mistakes, then they haven't gotten any better and therefore I'll be giving them the same score'. WHAT MISTAKES?! The game sold 30+ million copies, is one of the best-reviewed games ever and is a stone-cold classic...OF COURSE THEY FOLLOWED IT UP WITH A REFINEMENT ON WHAT WAS ALREADY THERE!

Sorry, I'm letting this get to me more than it should. it's just such a bone-headed argument and I'm sick of her having the platform to shout this nonsense like it has any authority.

Yeah I say contrarian because looking at some of the more recent video's (from last year) are a bit overboard and opinions that vary so much which goes against the tide. A lot comes accross as someone who's feels quite jaded about gaming in general. Though Sterling may be right in a lot of cases, other takes are just overly negative. Sometimes you gotta step back and enjoy games for what they are instead of focusing a lot of the 'bad' side of things. For the debates, clicks or whatever. Guess its her shtick after all. Its just cba to watch those reviews because you know she's going to be nitpicking on silly things that largely don't matter.

Not played TOTK so can't comment on that. But calling FFXVI not an FF is the most recent disingenuous and troll-bait thing Sterling said.. and going from that not worth bothering with.

Just did a session of KH BBS for PS4 on my PS5.

Completed Terra's part in Castle of Dreams (Cinderella world).

I remember how much I hated the escorting mission for Cinderella from when I first played the game on PSP and the HD remaster on PS3 lol

Lv 14 now.

I did grind a bit in the Mirage Arena - cant even finish the first arena challenge lol.

Next stop will be Dwarf Woodlands.

Final Fantasy XVI has shipped/sold 3m units worldwide.

more like 2 seasons of game of Thrones. Still a LOT of stuff but not bad when you see it that way.

And there's a lot of cutscenes. Lots of gameplay, too. It's just a big game. It reminds me in some ways of God of War/Ragnarok in terms of the epic scale and combat/off-controller bits. Honestly, the criticism I see for this game makes no damn sense to me. Then again, people have been 'divided' on every Final Fantasy since 7 for some reason or another. 1-6 were all pretty medieval fantasy with a few tweaks on the turn based combat and levelling systems (With VI being steampunk). But 7 actually did have SOME people complaining about it being too modern. and 8 people complained even more. then people complained when 9 was too chibi/childish. then complained when 10 didn't have a world map, then complained when 11 was online, and complained when 12 had gambits and...

I need to stop expecting anything Final Fantasy to have universal acclaim. There's always gonna be SOME portion of the fanbase out there that doesn't like something about it and complains. Hell, even I do that with 13 (but that game's an atrocity so I'll leave it at that).

Honestly, though, as a person who's been playing Final Fantasy since the 80s/90s, I can say this might be the most 'final fantasy' any game in the series has ever been. This and 9. yeah the combat system is action instead of turn based but so was 15 and VII Remake. And Final Fantasy has always tried different gameplay styles and tweaks on the formula. Being disappointed it's action instead of turn-based is reasonable. Hating the game or giving it a 0 is absurd. It succeeds in so many ways (Storytelling, writing, voice acting, music, gameplay, graphics, etc) that I can't fathom anyone giving it poor scores. Even those 6s on metacritic's official reviewers just seems absurd to me.

I think it got docked points cause it lacked diversity. personally for me the bad performance  mode and not hard difficulty made me change my mind and will wait for a discount.

NG+ gives you the option for hard.

I'm really happy to hear this being a hardcore Final Fantasy fan.

I was hoping that PS5 players would buy it, that's the case, you delivered.

Not terribly bad numbers.
