I'm always a little hesitant to hand off a dormant IP to a studio that does not want it. Its a completely different story if Bungie wants to do it though. |
Pretty sure they are not, because they wanted to stay independant, so working on someone's else IP probably wasn't ever in their plans. That being said, if Destiny is dying and Marathon is born dead, why not? Killzone is an in-house IP (Sony) that is likely not getting new games as Guerilla moved to a way more succesful franchise, so they have decent interest head start, can keep making games similar with what they are used to work with, and get back on their feet and later pitch another new IP in the future. |
If they decide to revive Killzone I would expect for the project to be protected because it's one of Hermen babies. Bungie has good developers, I dig the idea.
I would change the Destiny is dying to -> Destiny 2 is dying. Destiny 2 is too big for new people to be attracted and veterans are tired of how the game was managed. That said whenever Destiny 3 is released the game will sell. Destiny Rising just hit 10 million pre-registrations and yes there is a lot of factors like the game being free, NetEase being behind it, it's a mobile game, etc but the interest for more Destiny and most important NEW Destiny is there.
And finally I wonder what percentage of the people who are working at Bungie still want to be independent after the last 2 years lol. Half the company is gone, the CEO isn't doing shit for his people, the terrible reception of Marathon, devs saying they always advocated for Marathon to include more pve but the directors didn't listen. At this point I bet a lot of people at Bungie are pleased with the fact that Bungie is in their way to be a PS Studio and with "people" I mean the developers who actually make the games, not the CEO and his friends, those guys should be afraid because their time should be close to end.
