Forums - Sony - PlayStation Nation |OT| Playing Astro Bot on the Horizon Until Dawn

Just finished the main story for Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition on PS5.

Absolute cinema lol

Love the game in its entirety, the last 3 missions (18, 19 and 20) were awesome in every way.

Took me 23 hours to beat the main story.

Now to play as Vergil.

I don't think a 2D fighting game can be that big to begin with, regarless of how good it is or the IPs involved.

That being said, I hope we do get characters reveals regularly before and after the game launches (season pass/dlc), and that both Playstation and other IPs get added as well.

If Sony is considering acquiring ASW, which was a rumor not long after the PS5 got released and now as Sony owns the biggest fighting games event in the world, that would make a lot of sense, then they should start to develop some of their characters into the genre and ultimately get their own version of Marvel vs Capcom, which Tokon clearly is getting into.

I think there's definitely enough interest in Tokon based on recaps of that SOP.

Character reveals every SOP gets potentially more eyes on each SOP (from ppl interested in Tokon specifically) while also giving the game more marketing space to everyone else.

But I also hope it remains marvel heroes only. Maybe Cole or Kat cause they're basically superheroes, but I'd be disinterested in random crossover characters. Very unnecessary for this game.

There definitely will be a good amount of interest, but keeping expectations in check as far as not expecting something like Street Fighter levels of immediate success. Guilty Gear Strive is ASW’a biggest game in their entire existence and it only sold 3 million copies in 3 years.

Even the Marvel vs Capcom franchise throughout 6 games only sold 12 million copies combined.

I’m expecting Tokon to have similar type results, although I’m hoping for more than that because the games does look sick!

Arc System also developed DragonBall FighterZ which did 10M+ lifetime.

Oh right, duh! Looks like it did it in a little over 5 years. I’m curious how well Tokon can perform only 2 platforms while FighterZ was on 4.

FighterZ was awesome.

Story was great fanservice wise but the fights were plain and boring mainly due to fighting clones.

Not the first game to experience this.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Final Fantasy Dissidia, Jump Force , etc all had this lol.

If Marvel Tokon is very well received, I think it'll outsell FighterZ without the need of Switch and Xbox. The main audience for this style of games are on PC and Playstation.

Xbox players will be assimilated into other platforms including PC, so skipping the console will hardly matter in the long run.

Unless it's a massive hit on PC I honestly don't see how it would sell that much on the PS5.

Pretty sure most people don't get a PS5 to play 2.5D fighting games, the public is mostly on PC, right?

Finally got past an annoying bridge/boss in FFX HD played via BC on PS5. I saw the underwater date scene as well and got a little passed that.
FFX is an endurance for me, as I am not that skilled of a gamer consistently and leveling up spheres and such is not your typical grind.

Lifetime Sales Predictions

Switch: 161 million (was 73 million, then 96 million, then 113 million, then 125 million, then 144 million, then 151 million, then 156 million)

PS5: 122 million (was 105 million, then 115 million) Xbox Series X/S: 38 million (was 60 million, then 67 million, then 57 million. then 48 million. then 40 million)

Switch 2: 120 million (was 116 million)

PS4: 120 mil (was 100 then 130 million, then 122 million) Xbox One: 51 mil (was 50 then 55 mil)

3DS: 75.5 mil (was 73, then 77 million)

Yeah, Toukon has the chances to outsell Fightez but I think the game will release eventually on the Switch 2, it just doesn't make sense to delay the game now to implement the kind of characteristics players expect from a Switch game when most of the action will be on pc for the die hard enthusiasts and on ps5 for the tournaments.

It also doesn't make sense from the Nintendo cult to expect everything day one on the Switch 2 just because it can run bigger games now lol.

If we talk Fighterz it sold best on PS, Mortal Kombat as a franchise sells best on PS. There isn't official info about games like SF6 but estimations are 50% of those 5 millions pre switch 2 where on PC, PC may be the platform of choice for a lot of people who plan to play the games for decades to come but a lot of people just want to play one month and disappear in the horizon like with Fighterz, the precedent says they will buy in what they have.
