I am no expert on firefighting... Just some of the most flammable vegetation in existence in the driest state on the driest inhabited continent and been a part of some of the largest campaigns in Earths modern history.

...But the current bushfire situation is Trumps own making.

Doing hazard reduction burns help. ....When the fire isn't "crowning". And forest fires tend to always crown.
And once it crowns, embers get thrown and you can have new fire fronts start 20km/12miles+ away.

The "window" for doing hazard reduction burns (Which I have done every year for almost 2 decades) is shortening every season, you can't have fuel loads which aren't cured enough with a high RH, otherwise you won't achieve your targets... And if you have fuel loads which are highly cured, then you run risks of "over achieving".

But when they were cutting back on funding for their firefighting efforts? That was just incompetence.

Trump is far better at starting fires than he is at stopping or preventing fires.

Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in California is not about the protests.

Hundreds of US Marines have arrived in Los Angeles after another night of sporadic protests over President Trump's immigration raids. That's on top of the 2000 National Guard troops, a number which the administration has said may double.

It amounts to a significant and unusual escalation of domestic force. Mr Trump insisted the demonstrators were "paid insurrectionists", and accused the California governor Gavin Newsom of "causing a lot of death".

There are no reports of any deaths during the protests.

I'm not a huge fan of Gavin Newsom but this was a brilliant speech, it's a shame the rest of the Democrat establishment is so fucking silent and seemingly letting Gavin fight Trump alone, Chuck Schumer? Congress? Useless. What I've always said is that Gavin shouldn't run for President but should be a sort of "attack dog" for the Democrats because while I'm not a huge fan, I can see how strong of a debater and orator he is, he runs rings around Republicans, when he isn't pandering to idiot Trumpers, but at this rate it feels like they'll be no other option, I can only name less than 10 Democrats who feel to me like they're actually strongly pushing back against Trump's bullshit and of those less than 10, about half of them I can comfortably rule out as not standing a shot at Presidency.

Every Democrat Governor should be in unison with Gavin right now because they will be next.
