WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES.

Willing to let Americans suffer for his ego trip.

He's becoming more insane everyday, he'll be cosplaying as the Mad King soon.

So...This is all about making Canada a 51st state? Lol.

He contradicts himself and doesn't even see it. "We don't need anything we have" but "Canada should become out 51st state". Why do you want us if we have nothing to offer...

And no thank you for your military 'protection'. All you do is include us in the global hatred against American hegemony and we'll become a target for terrorism. We don't need your protection, we need protection against fascists like you. We'll stick with NATO.

Man, I was so looking forward to go to New York in just three weeks. I booked all the stuff last year already, and I was convinced Kamala Harris would win the election. But now with the way things are going, I don't know if I can take the trip with a good feeling anymore. I know not everybody in the states is like trump and especially NY is leaning to the left as I heard. But I still don't want to support that shitty excuse for a government one bit. Luckily I booked a hotel that I can always cancel and get my money back. Can't do that with my flight, but that's just a few hundred bucks and it is money that is going towards a german company. Anyway, I don't know what to do and I'm looking for advice. What would you guys advise?

To your dilemma, New York is fighting as hard as it can. I would go if I were you.

I'm the opposite. I enjoyed my time in Canada last year, and would like to go back and visit again. I have a buddy in London. After what Trump is doing to Canada, I don't feel like I would be welcome there, except maybe in Alberta. God knows I see enough snowbirds with Alberta plates from October to April.

We're well aware there's a big divide in the US, so as long as you don't spout nonsense like Canada should become a state, Americans are more then welcome here. Political asylum included lol.

My wife did 'clean up' her contact list again with Trump back in power. Over 100 people deleted, not worth the time arguing, smaller customer base is fine. Plenty of reasonable Americans left. Over half the country are victims of Trump as well. In the end 155 million people voted (90 million out of 245 million legible voters didn't vote), less than 80 million voted for trump out of 335 million population.

Today Trump is hosting a wanted war criminal. Not surprising for a convicted felon.

Israeli PM in Washington, DC for talks

Benjamin Netanyahu is in the US, where he is set to begin talks on a second phase of the ceasefire with Hamas.

Before boarding his flight in Tel Aviv on Sunday, the Israeli prime minister said he would discuss “victory over Hamas”, countering Iran and freeing all the captives when he meets US President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

It will be Trump’s first meeting with a foreign leader since returning to the White House two weeks ago, a prioritisation Netanyahu described as “telling”. “I think it’s a testimony to the strength of the Israeli-American alliance,” he told reporters.

Netanyahu said Israel’s wartime decisions had reshaped the Middle East and that with Trump’s support, this could go even further. “I believe that working closely with President Trump, we can redraw it even further and for the better.”

Discussing the ceasefire without any Palestinians present of course.

More like discussing how to carve up the ME more like UK and France did at the end of WW1.

Whatever, the israeli's are going to face terrorism if the sun shines or doesn't shine.  You eventually decide to get tough with your opponent and so i have no sympathy for palestine right now.  If Palestine wanted peace then they would stop supporting hamas.

Israel has always been the aggressor, Hamas is a resistance group, formed after the first intifada against the Israeli occupation, forced to extremes by assymetric warfare. (inexcusable and the ICC warrants against Hamas leaders are fully justified, yet that's what 76 years of occupation, apartheid and ethnic cleansing has led to)

Israel under the grip of right wing Neo-Zionism is nothing but a doomed, self destructive colonial project.

The US is the real culprit here, using Israel to further their own agenda in the ME. This conflict could have been solved long ago if Israel was held accountable for their actions and the Oslo accords were actually implemented, yet Netanyahu has made it his life's work to prevent a 2-state solution and has been doing everything to go against the Oslo accords since his first term as PM in 1996. Meanwhile the US has vetoed resolutions to fix the conflict more than 45 times.

Yes the Israeli's are going to face more 'terrorism' as long as they keep treating Palestinians and their other neighbors as non-humans. Still occupying Southern Lebanon, occupying parts of Syria, bombing Southern Lebanon, as well as the West Bank, daily destruction and raids in the West Bank, daily Settler attacks in the West Bank. Since the ceasefires in Lebanon and Gaza there still hasn't been one day in which Israel hasn't killed Palestinians...

Israel has 2 choices, kill everyone or make peace with their neighbors, end apartheid and occupation. Trump's idea to simply empty Gaza is not feasible. There are still another 3 million Palestinians in the West Bank and 300K in East Jerusalem as well.

I know Canada would be opposed, but a nice part if Canada became the 51st state - we'd have a few more blue states.  And I'm sure a lot of them would turn even bluer if they saw our healthcare situation.

You guys could bring universal healthcare to hundreds of millions of people, and prevent America from voting for another Trump.

Way easier for a bad apple to spoil the good ones than the opposite happening.

Blue is conservative in Canada ;) And we're destined to elect mini Trump.

But at least PP is still a patriot with his own ego, he won't sell us out to Trump.

Not so sure about Seskatchewan, Scott Moe is against counter tarrifs, but will still go along with the first round.

https://ici.radio-canada.ca/rci/en/news/2137605/here-are-all-the-ways-canada-is-striking-back-against-trumps-tariffs

The Canadian government has pledged to hit the U.S. with retaliatory 25 per cent tariffs on $155 billion worth of American goods coming into Canada. There will be an immediate $30 billion implemented on Tuesday, and the remaining $125 billion in 21 days.

According to a news release from the Department of Finance (new window), the first $30-billion phase of the Canadian counter-tariff response will hit American products like orange juice, peanut butter, wine, spirits, beer, coffee, appliances, apparel, footwear, motorcycles, cosmetics and pulp and paper.

The second, $125-billion phase will include products like passenger vehicles and trucks, steel and aluminum products, certain fruits and vegetables, aerospace products, beef, pork, dairy, recreational vehicles and recreational boats, the news release said.

Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre is calling on the Liberal government to resume Parliament and adopt seven actions in response to U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods planned for Feb. 4.

Poilievre proposed retaliating dollar for dollar by targeting industries that will have a maximum impact on the U.S. while harming Canadian consumers as little as possible.

He also said any funds collected through retaliatory tariffs should be returned to Canadians, specifically through cuts on other taxes. The tariffs must not be a tax grab. None of the money should stay in government coffers, Poilievre said. All of it should go back to the workers and businesses that are affected — and most of it should go back in the form of a massive tax cut.

Here in Ontario American liquor is banned from Tuesday (removed from the selves) and Ford is cancelling his $100 million contract with Musk's Starlink.

Since Pi Guy changed his comment, I will follow suit.

Lmao. It's as I said, Trump creates a fake win for himself.

The "Canada deal" which has just been announced, it was already announced over a month ago, the exact same thing.

Trudeau's Announcement

I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.

In addition, Canada is making new commitments to appoint a Fentanyl Czar, we will list cartels as terrorists, ensure 24/7 eyes on the border, launch a Canada- U.S. Joint Strike Force to combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering. I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.

Proposed tariffs will be paused for at least 30 days while we work together.

December Announcement

Today, the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs, along with the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and the Honourable Ya'ara Saks, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health, released Canada’s Border Plan. Backed by an investment of $1.3 billion and built around five pillars, this plan will bolster border security, strengthen our immigration system and contribute to ensuring Canada's future prosperity.

The Government will also propose to the U.S. the creation of a new North American Joint Strike Force to target transnational organized crime.

January Announcement

Public Safety is coordinating the $1.3-billion effort to further strengthen the border, and disrupt illegal cross-border activity. In the coming weeks, the Government of Canada will further enhance real-time surveillance of Canada’s border and increase presence to support communities. We have already deployed 60 new drones along our border with the U.S., and will be deploying additional surveillance towers and purchasing new technology, such as x-rays, mobile x-rays and hand-held chemical analyzers.

===

The only new thing Trump managed to get was to designate the Cartels as terrorists and Canada making up some Fentanyl Czar, Lmao. I'd love to be paid to be that Fentanyl Czar...All this over 43 pounds of Fentanyl...Dude must be massively overpaid in relation to the significance of his job, Lol. Imagine being paid (I assume) tens of thousands to stop 43 pounds of Fentanyl

Damage is already done at this stage though, Canada will almost assuredly look for other partners in the future and the delay is 30 days, a delay for what? What will be the next bullshit reason he comes up to attack Canada with? What will be the next fake issue he creates to stroke his ego? I assume he'll go back to ranting about the "trade deficit" 30 days from now.

Trudeau wins here, he has delayed Trump's insanity for a month, it will give Canada more time to prepare, a 30 day delay for something Canada was already doing, Trump truly is a master negotiator. Although I don't think kicking the can down the road for 30 days is safe, Trump blinked this time but he'll eventually ask for something of actual substance the more we stroke his ego.
