JD Vance didn't originate the rumors about Haitian immigrants in Springfield eating cats and dogs, but he's more responsible than anyone for their rise into the national political discussion.

After a week marked by threats against immigrants in the Ohio town, the senator and vice presidential candidate admitted to "creating a story" around Haitians during an interview with CNN's Dana Bash on Sunday.

When Vance was pinned down by the host over the smears he spread being entirely false, he didn't seem ashamed. He told Bash that he had to create a fiction to bring media attention to the way that his constituents are suffering (read: having to live alongside hard-working, legal immigrants to the United States in a newly revitalized town).

“If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that's what I'm going to do," Vance said.

It's certainly brought attention. So what's the grievances of the people if it's not cats being eaten. Talk about muddying the water. Christ.

There's no reason to make up cats. I'm pretty sure this is illegal too, there's an image of a man holding a goose, that I won't post outta respect, so it's not fake.

Okay, people are posting it on Twitter so screw it.

Most people in the country will shoot Geese if they are on their lawn or pond.  All they do is leave poop everywhere.

They’re racists. Not obvious to people who live under the American dome of confusion, but blatantly obvious to those who don’t.

Racism, no matter where it is, generally comes with strong susceptibility to bias and credulity. That’s why these fools believe such absurd stories.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Here they are protected wildlife and for good reason.

The reason to make up a story about cats and dogs is because they're both beloved animals and it's an attempt to turn peoples hatred against an entire community of people for political reasons.

Onto geese...It's legal to hunt geese in Ohio in very specific circumstances, those circumstances relate to the type of weapon used and only during a certain period in the year, anything outside that window is illegal.

Onto the picture, that dude isn't Haitian according to the Redditor who took the picture 2 months ago. This picture was in Columbus, not Springfield or Dayton and also this...

The Ohio Division of Wildlife told TMZ that the man was picking up the two geese that had been hit by a car in Columbus

In order to collect a carcass, people need documentation from a county sheriff or wildlife officer, the wildlife organization explained, but according to the Franklin County Wildlife Office, this is not required for geese, meaning the man had a right to them.

TMZ reported that there is no evidence that the man is Haitian, an immigrant or that he even intended to eat the geese.

The Independent

Again, don't believe everything you see on Twitter cause now we're just on a witch-hunt. This dude is probably some poor American who now has his face plastered everywhere for the crime of picking up Geese hit by a car and if he's eating them I don't really care, Lol. They were already dead, I know people who have ate roadkill in the UK, Lol. Providing you know what you're doing I don't really see the issue with it.

It's also quite ironic because hunters are largely Republican and they go out every season blasting thousands of waterfowl, Lol.

Kojima was right. The Internet needs an AI to take control as a neutral third party and parse the information, I can't believe he predicted this in 2001 before the Internet even had it's significant boom. I don't know what we are going to do but this amount of information, factual or not is a real threat. I don't know if up is down anymore, the only winning move seems to be not to engage.

Just wait a day or two, do your own research, re-confirm multiple times with different sources. Twitter is the worst place for misinformation...I could make a tweet that my neighbour ate my dog and I'd probably find thousands of people believing and sharing it, Lol. You just have to be vigilant and follow only trusted sources, anyone who spreads bullshit gets removed from my credible list.

Seems like a lotta work. I'm just not going to engage. I'll pull my head out of the sand if it's something serious. I made the mistake of clicking on Nazi which was trending on twitter today, I'll not make that mistake again.
