Forums - Sales Discussion - January NPD 2023 Thread - PS5 #1, NS #2, XS #3 - Dead Space #2

Good month.

So Xbox was the only one that dropped in HW sales (as PS and Switch were up, but the month in general dropped 5%), Forspoken charted even with everyone badmouthing it while Hi-FI Rush didn't even with all the good reception.
Good to see One Piece Odyssey charted even though it wasn't a hyped title. I'm liking it so far, it have its slower portions.
Nice to see TLOU rising in chart probably due to the series continuously improving its viewership.

I mean it's possible that US didn't get a boost like all these other regions but Xbox had a terrible Holiday and nothing has changed since then. They need Starfield to hopefully turn their fortunes around because the Series is in danger of even falling behind the XBO launch aligned.

Well it's already behind the One is the US, so I don't know how long the lead will be there.

I wasn't aware Series was already passed by the X1. That is strange for me.

Xbox Series has been tracking behind the Xbox One in the US even with Microsoft stating the Xbox Series is the fastest-selling Xbox generation. So the difference is made up in other parts of the world.

Last year PS5 sold 691k in January. Spain and Japan alone are up by 100k YoY for the first 4 weeks. Add in the increase here and the 98% from the UK... assuming strong growth in other countries too we could easily be looking at over 900k for the PS5 this month especially if the rest of Europe is like the UK and Spain.

Considering Sony needs to ship 6.2M this quarter to meet their revised forecast I think even 1M for January is lowballing.

Gotcha, from the charts for WW you put I do remember seeing quite a gap between both so I was surprised to hear USA it is already behind even with reception being so much better.

Xbox One had a decent first couple of years before sales fell off. Our estimates have Xbox Series X|S ahead of the Xbox One worldwide by 1.13 million units. Though the gap did shrink over the holidays.
