Forums - PC - What is the best software for maintaining PC health? Viruses, spyware, etc.

I had McAfee for 2 years, but I recently, of last weekend (not this past one) had obtained a trojan and some viruses some way. McAfee was unable to detect the viruses, but got the trojan and 'did not' remove/quarantine it. I used Microsoft's OneCare website to do free scanning, and it removed the trojan, but it also picked up some things that McAfee missed. McAfee was expensive, around $70 a year to use. I uninstalled it and bought OneCare after it removed some of the bugs McAfee didn't pick up, which was $50. I feel that OneCare from Microsoft has been working much better than McAfee. It has tuned up my PC more than McAfee did for some reason.

I had Ad-Aware but had to uninstall it for OneCare, but I still have Spy-bot.

UBUNTU...

ok, for windows computers, I think just keep it updated, with firefox+noscript and use AVG is enought.

I like Kaspersky for antivirus. It detected a shitload of threats and malware that my old Norton ignored.

I don't have any antivirus on XP currently...they all ate up too many resources, and AVG gave me problems with Steam.

Maybe I'll go back to AVG if the Steam problems are fixed...I don't really care though, I browse safely with Firefox.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Seems great to me, I also use ad block plus, though.

Kaspersky is safe as Alcatraz, I recommend it. It also largely stays out of your day to day routines (unlike Norton 'cough') and doesn't steal all the system memory when scanning or starting/maintaining a process.
Go for it.

PS: Stay away from Avast, its a little fuzzy on the edges in my experiences and gives shoddy protection.

Download Spyware Blaster. It's free and since I found it searching the net a few years ago. None of my machines have gotten spyware. As for antivirus I use Antivir. downloadable for free from http://www.free-av.com

Now Playing: Crysis 2
