Forums - Sales Discussion - Famitsu Sales: Week 50, 2022 (05 Dec - 11 Dec)

So are there 52 or 53 week that are gonna count for this year? Because 52 weeks leaves 6 days left at end of the year. Switch should be right around 4.8m after 52 weeks, but around 4.9m by the actual end of the year.

PS5 and XBS sales are interesting. They keep declining since black Friday. There have been higher random weeks during the year for them. Are Sony and MS just not bothering to put HW on store shelves for the holidays because it's all going to US and Europe? I mean I know PS5 and XBS aren't popular in Japan but still its the holidays, you'd think Xbox should be able to at least do 10k a week during holidays and PS5 like 40k or 50k a week. 18k and 1500 is awfulllll. Hell, PS4 even beat XBS again! I thought PS5 was supposed to have millions of extra stock for the holidays lol, you'd think an extra 20k or so per week of that could go to japan.

Famitsu counts Week 52, 2022 as 19 Dec - 25 Dec and week 1, 2023 as 26 Dec - 1 Jan so it is a bit weird. Famitsu will count 2023 as a 53 week year.

Software gets a holiday boost, with every game in the top 10 selling 11K+.

Hardware, though, is quite disappointing imo. Far and away the worst week 50 for Switch in its life and both PS5 and XSX down WoW in a time when console sales normally rise each week.

Looking at Shadowlinks table week 51 for Switch has been consistantly lower sales each year, but I think it's party due to Famitsu's weeks... For example I believe week 51 for 2017 was 7 days ending Dec 24th, whereas this year it will be ending Dec 18th, so even if they are the same week number they are almost 1 week mis-aligned.

Switch's age will be a factor but I think the week shift is also causing week 50 sales to trend downward. (down every year since 2018)

Wouldn't market saturation be a factor for Switch right now? If its classified as a home console then its the highest seller of all time in Japan. If considered a handheld, it still has a fair shot at beating GB and DS, although it sells at a much higher price point.

Pokemon Scarlet / Violet has now overtaken Splatoon 3. It is now The 6th Best selling physical game in Japan.

01./01. [NSW] Pokemon Scarlet / Violet # <RPG> (Pokemon Co.) {2022.11.18} (¥5.980) - 277.676 / 3.702.482 (-10%)

03./02. [NSW] Splatoon 3 <ACT> (Nintendo) {2022.09.09} (¥5.980) - 51.315 / 3.497.714 (+32%)

Switch holiday sales are less than expected but overall yearly sales are great.

Beginning of the year most were questioning if it would be able to top 2019 or not.

Yeah. Definitely expect Switch 2 by holiday 2024, or perhaps a bit earlier.

Switch holiday sales are slowing down, but it for sure has one more strong holiday left in it.

I wonder if S/V will outsell MK8D in japan (retail and in total). MK is nearly passing Smash on retail at least, so it'll soon be #2 for the system. But with these sorts of S/V numbers S/V could be only 500k behind MK and Smash at retail by like mid Jan, and since it sold a ton of digital at launch that might mean it's even with them in total sales. S/V definitely looking like it wants that #2 spot in Japan, and soon!

It's amazing despite how absurdly record breaking Splatoon 3's Japan launch was just a few months ago, it is has already been completely outclassed haha.

I can't wait for Nintendo's next quarterly report. I wonder if S/V could be at like 18m-20m globally by end of year.

Well Sword/Shield had an opening quarter of 16.06 million, we know that Sword/Shield first week sales were 6 million compared to 10 million for Scarlet/Violet. So after one week Scarlet/Violet was 4 million ahead so if it sells the same as Sword/Shield after the first week then it will hit 20 million by the end of the year.
