Switch vs DS Sales Comparison in Japan - November 2022

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in December 2004 in Japan and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the normal holiday periods and the Japanese Golden Week holiday for the two consoles do not lineup.

November 2022 is the 69th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for in Japan. During the latest month, the Switch has outsold the DS by 330,647 units when you align the launches.

In the last 12 months, the Switch has outsold the DS by 1.54 million units. The DS is currently ahead of the Switch by 3.85 million units.

The 69th month for the Switch is November 2022, while for the DS it is August 2010. The Switch has sold 27.13 million units, while the DS sold 30.97 million units during the same timeframe. The DS sold current Switch sales in month 56.

The DS has sold 32.99 million units lifetime in Japan. The Switch is currently 5.86 million units behind the lifetime sales of the DS.

Switch should be able to pass the DS in about a year and a half depending on the successor launch period.

Xbox Series X|S vs Xbox 360 Sales Comparison in Japan - November 2022

This monthly series compares the aligned sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360 in Japan, as well as looking at lifetime original Xbox sales and Xbox One sales.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in Japan in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in Japan in December 2005. The original Xbox launched in Japan in February 2002 and the Xbox One in September 2014.

XSX|S Vs. X360 Japan:

Gap change in latest month: 23,461 - X360

Gap change over last 12 months: 13,632 - XSX|S

Total Lead: 146,916 - X360

Xbox Series X|S Total Sales: 396,322

Xbox 360 Total Sales: 543,238

November 2022 is the 26th month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for in Japan. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox Series 360 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S by 23,461 units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox Series X|S has caught up to the Xbox 360 by 13,632 units. The Xbox 360 is currently ahead by 146,916 units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 396,322 units in 25 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 543,238 units. Month 25 for the Xbox Series X|S is November 2022 and for the Xbox 360 is December 2007.

The Xbox 360 crossed one million units in month 40 and 1.5 million units in month 67. The Xbox 360 sold 1.66 million units lifetime.

The improvement from Xbox One to Xbox Series in Japan is really something.
It's not impossible that the Series will sell 10 times its predecessor.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

The PlayStation 5 launched in November 2020, while the PlayStation 4 launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

November 2022 is the 25th month the PlayStation 5 has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 4 when compared to the aligned launch of the PlayStation 5 by 1.29 million units.

In the last 12 months, the PS4 has outsold the PS5 by 3.80 million units. The PS4 is currently ahead of the PS5 by 4.11 million units.

The PS5 has sold 27.56 million units in 25 months, while the PS4 sold 31.67 million units. Month 25 for the PS5 is November 2022 and for the PS4 is November 2015.

The PS4 crossed 40 million units in month 31, 50 million in month 38, and 60 million in month 44. The PS4 has sold 117.03 million units to date.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, while the Xbox One launched in November 2013. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox Series X|S has grown by 1.93 million units. The Xbox Series X|S is currently ahead by 2.90 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 19.67 million units in 25 months, while the Xbox One sold 16.78 million units. Month 25 for the Xbox Series X|S is November 2022 and for the Xbox One is November 2015.

The Xbox One did not reach current Xbox Series X|S sales until month 28 when it sold 19.93 million units.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S both launched in November 2020. The PlayStation 5 launched November 12, 2020 in North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, and the rest of the world on November 19, 2020. The Xbox Series X|S launched worldwide on November 10, 2020.
