Pretty sure that 2nd party deal died years ago. IO Interactive announced that was a multiplatform game like 2 or 3 years ago now. More likely this is like an Epic exclusivity deal on PC that fell through or something, or a day one Gamepass deal on it, considering there are reports that Xbox has frozen all Gamepass discussions pending the full decision on what will be cut and what will be kept at Xbox.

Nope. According to Jason Schreier this was Xbox that was funding the game.

Well, not surprised Asha shut that down then, funding a 2nd party game for PS5 is just not in her vision of returning to exclusivity on Xbox. I recall multiple pieces of evidence back in like 2024 that Jez had been wrong about his earlier 2023 reporting of Xbox exclusivity for Project Dragon/Fantasy, that IO was developing it for PS5 as well as Xbox Series and PC.

For those wondering this is about the rumor of Blade/Arkane shutting down. This guy is an actor / voice actor.

I didn't realize Elias was on Marvel's Blade. Love his voice, will be glad if the game actually releases and he is in it. I will forever hate Embracer for cancelling the 3rd Adam Jensen Deus Ex game with Elias voicing Adam.

So, if they will close like everything which isn't working on their biggest IPs and if they say exclusives are so important for your console eco-system under the new lead they really mean "we want maybe 4 big IPs which need to be exclusives and nothing else" or what?

A few studios work on games which won't be exclusives like CoD so what's even left after all of that? Halo, Gears, Forza Horizon, Fallout and a few really depend on their next release but probably won't be that big (like Fable).

And something like Fallout also won't be exclusive in the future so yeah...the mega plan is to release much less games to show how Xbox is THE platform to own?

And them investing in third party devs also seems to get many cuts (not that they even did much before).

Tbf, he did also work on Perfect Dark, so, can't ever know for sure.

Seems like up to 5 of Xbox's 29 remaining owned studios will close or be sold off, earlier reports of id and Machine Games closing were torpedoed by more reliable sources, the remaining possible sales or closures now are Ninja Theory, Compulsion, Double Fine, Arkane, and Undead Labs.

That leaves them with:

  • Rare- Sea of Thieves
  • Halo Studios- Halo
  • Coalition- Gears
  • Playground- Forza Horizon
  • Turn 10- Forza Horizon co-development and ForzaTech engine development
  • inXile- Clockwork Empire and Wasteland
  • Obsidian- Fallout singleplayer games moving forward most likely
  • World's Edge- Age of Empires
  • Mojang- Minecraft
  • Bethesda- Elder Scrolls, Fallout 76, possible Starfield sequel after TES 6 but I'm not sure if it sold well enough for Asha to greenlight it
  • id- Doom, Quake
  • MachineGames- Wolfenstein 3 reportedly in early development, not sure if indiana Jones sold well enough to greenlight a sequel considering Disney's known high licensing fees for games.
  • Zenimax Online- Elder Scroll Online
  • All 11 Activision studios- Co-development on CoD games, necessary to have that many studios on CoD to keep up yearly releases when each game now takes 4 years to make, up from 3 years in the past
  • Blizzard (9 studios in 9 cities around the world)- WoW, Overwatch, Diablo

I do think that part of Asha focusing on only their largest franchises means that they will be focusing on exclusivity more, and that could mean we will see something like timed exclusivity on Elder Scrolls or Fallout.
