That might be the play here. I can get accustomed to the thought while waiting for Steam Deck 2 to release (2026?).

Helldivers 2! Good day for Xbox.
Seriously, why do people care so much about vaporware getting cancelled? I was a little mad at first only because of Perfect Dark but apparently it has been the right decision considering its poor state. The time of games needing 5 years and more of development time needs to end fast.
This part really blows my mind in particular. Marty Stratton really being the only other notable remaining Bethesda employee outside of Todd Howard. I was really excited to see what Harvey Smith and John Johanas could come back with in particular.
God I hope Microsoft doesn't fuck with id Software and Quakecon though!!!
Honestly, they've done Bethesda as a whole dirty. How do you acquire them and then lose Pete Hines, Harvey Smith, Shinji Mikami, John Johanas, and Matt Firor?

Like, you're a 'Todd Howard' away from losing everything that made Bethesda what it is.

2027 at the earliest. You never know, Valve might surprise us with a home console too. Whatever they put out next is going to be my next console.
Probably not the best vid, but it shows that it is readily available to go "console" away from Microsoft on PC, while there simultaneously are enough small hassles to have people like me (or Ryuu, haha) to really think twice whether I go that route. Ah, o.k., bit more patience then. A console from them would be something!

Give or take. I love my Steam Deck, but the biggest crutch though is that it's built on top of Linux. An OS that is not very widely adopted in game development. And their Proton compatibility layer can only go so far.
So you would have to come around to the thought that you're not going to be able to play everything or you'll have to find a workaround. Especially on other launchers or games that incorporate anti-cheat.

LOL yeah I saw this video not too long ago. We're quickly reaching the point where PC based operating systems can function like a console. I wouldn't be surprised if we're a generation away from consoles becoming full on PCs rather than proprietary OS's.

Pete Hines retired, Mikami left thinking Tango would be safe and even spoke about leaving before the acquisition but was afraid if he did so that the studio would be shutdown so I wouldn't put that on Microsoft, but losing Harvey Smith, John Johanas and Matt Firor is definitely their fault and a direct result of their actions, likewise with Gregg Mayles and Louise O'Connor.
People may be able to say that Perfect Dark was shovelware which it looks true, but that's based on rumours, people are using rumours to justify closing The Initiative and Perfect Dark, fair, but also ignoring the rumours that say that Everwild and Project Kestrel were looking good and moving along steadily, and Gregg Mayles leadership over Everwild wasn't even that long.
Was losing Gregg Mayles and Louise O'Connor worth it? That's what cancelling Everwild has done.
And FWIW, Jason Scheirer is also hinting that Project Kestrel had a lot of positivity behind it and was sounding great. So if we're going to use rumours to justify Perfect Dark/The Initiative's closures, we should be using rumours that say Everwild and Project Kestrel shouldn't have been cancelled because they were both sounding great.
And that Romero game was cancelled despite them meeting every single deadline.

NEW: In March, Xbox boss Phil Spencer was so impressed by the demo of a Zenimax game codenamed Blackbird that Matt Booty had to tell him to stop playing so the meeting could continue. Yesterday, they canceled it.

It's always tempting to glamorize canceled games, but this one came as a huge shock to the hundreds of Zenimax Online Studios employees working on it. I've seen footage of the vertical slice: It was slick and impressive, with a lot of mobility mechanics that looked like a lot of fun
