Happy for Rockstar but 😬

2025 is going to be another rough year for the industry.

And I think too much responsibility is already being put on GTA's shoulders.

I don't know the solution and I don't think it's for America's videogame industry to die, or for the blackhole games to die, we live in a capitalist world, if the American videogame industry collapsed or the blackhole games died overnight, that too would be utterly horrific for the videogame industry as a whole and result in a significant decline in gamers and even further decline in investment.

I agree with most of your post, but have to say something about this. I think the video game industry by now is diverse enough, that it can handle the unhealthy parts to die off. Again, as I said before, this might be tough for the american part though, as I see that this results in a shift of dev capacity to outside the US. Trump isn't helping here really. I also don't think they will all die. Some companies are just too big to fail, they will chug along. I don't think EA or Ubisoft are really going under. EA basically can't, they print money with FC (formerly known as FIFA). Both might shrink in their importance though. We will see.

Nobody I’ve talked to at Rockstar has believed Fall 2025 was a real window for a very long time now. Too much work, not enough time, and what appears to be a real desire from management to avoid brutal crunch. GTA VI slipping to 2026 has seemed inevitable for months if not longer

Grand Theft Auto VI is slipping to May 2026 — always a matter of when, not if www.rockstargames.com/newswire/art...

I don't understand how the industry even sees GTA as a saviour. This will be a successful game, but it will mostly not be additional money. It will be money that is missing for other games as many gamers will instead pick GTA. I also doubt it draws a lot of new gamers. The previous entries might have, but the people it appeals to are now gamers already. So not much new gamers, but a lot of existing gamers will play and pay GTA instead of other games.

Yeah I think it's cope, Lol.

The only thing is it would have helped console sales a little, I think console sales will be meh across the board in 2025 now aside from obviously, Nintendo.

Plus with the MP component it will result in a lot of extra spending spread across a few months but I doubt it will be big enough to "save" the industry in the way that these investors think it will, I doubt it will bring in enough NEW gamers rather than just catering to existing gamers.

Honestly, I wish it was June instead, you don't tend to get many huge titles releasing in Summer so a nice big title to play across June/July would be nice and also wouldn't get in the way of many releases, it seems the perfect date to release GTA with minimal impact on other publishers, I was actually predicting that Fable would release in May 2026 but now that's fucked my prediction.

Now you're going to see a bunch of announcements for Holiday 25, Lmao. I bet a lot of publishers delayed their titles to early 26 as well due to GTA and are now considering pulling them forward back into 2025 so they can get back in the Holiday season sales, but I doubt anything actually planned for Jan-April will move, anything releasing before GTA 6 is safe. It'll just be the titles moved from 25 into 26 which may come back to 25 because they were already prepared for a release in 25 and want the holiday money.

But then it is awkward to change plans that drastically, I hope we don't end up with a barren end of year because of that.

Because it is not a few million but tens of millions of people who play GTA most of the time and would not get anything else till the next GTA (some even a console) thats a lot of money coming into retail but yeah GTA IV did not do so much like predicted and I still believe GTA Vi will be 60$ but with no online,  Online will be an adittional cost or monthly sub cost.

There is absolutely zero chance that GTA VI is $60, Lol.
