Finished off Tiny Tina's Wonderlands yesterday. It was pretty good but could have been better.
-On the plus side, the gameplay is the best in the whole series to date, the new class system with create a character and cross-class builds is fantastic, a huge leap forward compared to the set characters in past Borderlands games. My cross class pet build meshed together remarkably well and made for my most fun gameplay experience in the whole series to date.
-On the downside however, the biggest issue is definitely the scarcity of Borderlands characters. Unlike the Borderlands 2 DLC it is based on, which was loaded with Borderlands characters, Wonderlands has just 5 Borderlands characters that show up, Tina herself, Brick, Torgue, Claptrap, and Buttstallion. Of those, Tina herself is the only one to make a truly lengthy appearance, Claptrap gets 2 questlines in 2 different zones out of 10+ zones, while Torgue and Brick appear for an even shorter amount of time than Claptrap. Instead we get lots of new characters, most of which are just not as entertaining as the Borderlands NPC's are. Humor in general feels the weakest it has ever felt in the series, with very few jokes sticking the landing for my humor tastes. The more serious bits of the storyline are well written though, once again dealing with Gamemaster Tina's emotional state.
Overall I'd say it's a solid 8.5/10 game, but considering the DLC it is based on is one of the top 5 best DLC expansions in the history of gaming, an 8.5/10 experience is definitely a bit of a letdown. Hopefully they learned their lesson and put more Borderlands characters into Wonderlands 2 and have them appear for longer stretches, and get better jokes.
