I only know my niece and nephew saw it and they didn’t like it lol. Surprising considering they’re massive Minecraft fans. I think it mainly is due to them being raised on Disney Renaissance era movies.

My daughter hasn’t shown any interest in it when we’ve shown her trailers for it. We might show it to her when it comes to streaming.

Speaking of controllers, I got the Ghost Cipher xbox controller last weekend for by bday. Really dig the look of it.

I was originally going to order the red version as soon as it got revealed, but after using the Sky Cipher for a while I don't like the feel. Looks great, but compared to the Starfield controller nowhere as comfortable.

If they release a DOOM version with the same quality as the Starfield I'll probably buy it.

How do they feel different? I haven't used the Starfield controller. The Cipher ones have the rubber grips on the back which I like the feel of.

This is blowing my mind given how awful it looks.  Maybe a "so bad, it's good" candidate?

I suspect it's the child and teen Minecraft fans carrying it quite heavily, my teenage nieces were talking about wanting to go see it at a family gathering last night. The movie looked quite bad to me, I was cringing when I saw the reveal trailer, but clearly some people like it, got a decent unweighted 7.0/10 on IMDb and an even higher 84% positive 4.3/5 average audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is only 0.4/10 lower than the Sonic 3 movie on IMDb and only 0.3/5 lower than Sonic 3 on Rotten Tomatoes.

I've already seen lots of memes about it, audiences cheering during certain moments in the film, Lmao. But it's Minecraft, it was always going to do well, I was baffled anyone thought otherwise in the months leading up to release, Lol. Kids don't care for reviews either and they'll be the main target audience, similar to something like Minions which was also panned critically. Though I have seen a surprising amount of people say it's actually quite fun and has a few funny moments and the IMDB score is currently 6.1 which isn't good but the RT score is 87% which is good, Lol.

Some stats from the Deadline article...

A Minecraft Movie gets a B+ CinemaScore overall, with the under 18 bunch digging it at a solid A.

Rotten Tomatoes’ audience score is 86%.

At this point, PostTrak tells us more: A very good 65% definite recommend for the overall audience, however, 13-17 year olds give the movie a 74% definite recommend, men and those under 25 award it a 67% each, and the older crowd isn’t shrugging the loopy Jason Momoa and Black feature with a 79% definite recommend from the 45-54 set and 67% over 55.

The 18-24 year olds are the biggest demo at 43% (they give it a 70% grade), followed by 13-17 year olds (35% turnout, 85% grade). More drill down: Men under 25 are another big demo at 54% (78% grade), followed by women under 25 (74%), men over 25 at 13% (81%) and women over 25 at 8% (80% grade).

50% said Minecraft met their expectations while 39% said it exceeded expectations.

It does seem to be a fairly mid film overall with a few funny moments, it may be frontloaded once all the kids have gone out to see it and the hardcore Minecraft fans who understand all the references, so the legs could fall short, but they timed it well because Easter Holiday is next week and schools are on break.

When we dropped our niece off at the cinema today it was absolutely rammed, a mix of kids and adults though.

It's just Minecraft...It's still massive...Kids are still obsessed with it, adults are still playing it and grew up with it, it has managed to remain this relevant for over 10 years and it's not just maintaining its base of kids who grew up playing it who are now adults but it's still appealing to millions of new young gamers. Sometimes I think to myself "If Minecraft ever dies, I wonder what Microsoft would do" but then I see all the new young kids obsessed with it and it is still selling like ~20m a year and think, that isn't happening anytime soon, Lol. It's pretty impressive to maintain this level of following with honestly just a single game that has been continuously updated since release.
