Looks like the Sony Devs who helped with Callisto gimped the Xbox version.

Ride The Chariot | Games Completed ‘25 Edition

Gotta say, I did not have Midnight Suns out-reviewing Callisto Protocol on my bingo card, lol. Most of the pre-release trailers and such for Midnight Suns had alot of dislikes due to the controversial card mechanic, the playable cast not actually being the real Midnight Sons, and the graphics and overall production value being lackluster, but critics at least seem to have liked the game.

Callisto Protocol meanwhile had a hugely positive pre-release reception, all of the Dead Space fans were hoping it would be a proper successor to Dead Space 1 and 2, but instead it is buggy, has performance issues, and according to some of the critics, focuses too much on action and not enough on the actual horror and suspense, meaning it's more like Dead Space 3 than it is like Dead Space 1 and 2. What a shame.

Apparently, we're just hating on Callisto Protocol because the PS5 version runs better according to Twitter rather than the game itself just not living up to the hype

I honestly wouldn't even look at it that way. The much more likely scenario of what happened here, is that they had trouble getting their game ready for launch. The game wasn't shaping up well, technically. Sony, having already invested in marketing, and tied their name to the project (very aggressively in some markets), saw this, and sent the team the help it needed to at least make certain that the PS version of the game was up to scratch.

I'm playing a loving it so far. I do not really care about those few frame lost here and there... I'm not Sonyfoundry and I am not counting... :)

Game is really good, people should not miss it out just because of that imho.

Hopefully Sony ends up with nothing it’s clear that they just want the deal blocked, just want this deal done with already.

The game seems to have issues other than the performance on Xbox's quality mode, lol. Completely broken on PC, plus it apparently isn't nearly as scary as the first two Dead Space games were, as the devs put too much emphasis into the action elements of the game, much like Dead Space 3.

That being said, I do think that the game running better on quality mode on PS5 is pretty inexcusable, on paper the Series X should be seeing an advantage in any ray tracing based mode, which the quality mode in Callisto Protocol is. The Series X GPU is rated at 94.9 gigatriangles per second and 379.6 gigavoxels per second in terms of ray tracing performance, while the PS5 (with it's variable GPU running at max frequency) is rated lower on both metrics, I can't find the exact number right now but as I recall, it was around 80 gigatriangles per second and 300 gigavoxels per second in raytracing performance.

If it's simply a matter of lack of optimization on Series X, due to more optimization effort being put into the PS5 version because Sony had the marketing rights, then the game should have just been delayed on all platforms until the PC and Xbox versions were up to snuff. Releasing a AAA game in December, and on the same day as 2 other big games (Midnight Suns and Need For Speed) is a pretty boneheaded move to start with, they could afford to delay it until all versions were ready for launch.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it! Other than the technical issues, I've been hearing it's too focused on the action and not on the horror. Only horror really is nonstop jump scares. That true?

Sony has teams which help developers, more so than Xbox, they got contracted for Callisto.

Although I'm fairly sure the team that helped Callisto was just a mocap team.

They probably just prioritised PlayStation.

Yah I would say so too; which is  fine by me :) Not a big fan of horror but I love SiFi!
