I'm not personally getting the performance issues that some of you are getting from FF 16. I'm playing on the quality mode with the 30 fps. At first it was pretty bad, but your eyes really do get used to 30 after awhile. I'm also playing on a tv and not a monitor if that has any influence. Performance mode did look pretty poor when I played on my monitor though, texture quality and not a real 60. Would much rather play at stable 30 than choppy 60 as well.

We probably ain't seeing Perfect Dark again till 2025 lol

God, they must've wholesale scrapped everything but assets from that build Phil played years ago.  Remember his assurances back then?

Just started listening to the new DF weekly, they were talking about the response to their analysis of FFXVI's performance mode and John made the comment, "it's worth mentioning if this game had been available on the Xbox this wouldn't have been an issue, because that supports the wider VRR window." They also conclude the game was obviously made with 30fps as it's target and 60fps was shoehorned in, which is why it looks and feels awful.

Well ain't that ironic, considering we've had some rather active members on these forums lately going around nagging people about how true next-gen requires 60ps, that's it's basically mandatory for certain genres (like action games) and alluding to the idea PS5 was the only system supporting this consistently.

Seems like PS5's biggest exclusive of the year so far is only a last-gen version. Those load times though.

Honestly, I gave up on DF a while ago (calling them Sony Foundry). I'm playing Final Fantasy 16 and the game performance is AWEFUL like REALLY bad...

30FPS is unplayable because of the motion blur (I did not really care during the demo but after playing a while it is so nauseating) and the "performance" mode is dropping frames so much...

For Xbox games/issues, they usually spend the majority of their videos talking about how bad the FPS is or pixels missing here and there.

But for this game, they barely mention it and everyone is fine at the end...

For me Final Fantasy 16 is a disappointment, I was super hyped even after playing the demo, but:

- This is not an RPG... It is really an arcade action-adventure game. I get that they do not want to go back to turn-based but they really went too far and there is really very little RPG or tactical decision at all. And it is more about button smashing/timing that anything else.
- The performance is so bad... Like seriously, this is supposed to be the flagship title for Play Station 5 this year before Spider Man 2 and nobody is talking about that but when you have Starfield announced at a locked 30FPS, it is the end of the world (at least DF, did not bitch that tho).

The game is good for other things but def. not an RPG and the performance is shit level:
-  Story is amazing so far (I'm something like 25 hours in)
- The Active Time Lore thingy is gold, they need to do that in every game... (you can pause during a cut scene or even while playing to get a sumary about all people, places and monsters you see, like the Amazon thing you can do while watching).
- That's it... No RPG element, button smashing fight with very little tactical decision (using Garuda when half staggered is one of them, and probably the only meaningful one, everyelse is button smashing).

I love RPGs and the best RPGs I've ever played had amazing and memorable sidequests.

The fact FF16 suffers dramatically on both fronts leaves me very disappointed. The term RPG has been so watered down that it doesn't hold much weight anymore. Thankfully Bethesda, Obsidian, and inXile are still around lol.

I'll see about trying the game out when it comes to PC and I'll go into it with a completely different perspective as what to expect. So I'm at least not disappointed at the lacking of the game being an RPG lol.

Because from what I've heard, story, characters, music, and combat are huge highlights.

I don't think DF have ever been that partial, and since the Xbox One X released to now with the Xbox Series X, they've usually been more complementary of Xbox simply because it usually puts out the better raw numbers. While they gave FFXVI a lot of praise in most aspects, they rightfully detailed all the issues with it's performance mode and are the main reason this has become widely known.

They were also very glowing in their praise of Starfield's recent showing, and the general backlash of 30fps has been harmless outside of some loud fanboys. So if you're looking for anyone to blame in that regard, blame the blatant bias of the wider gaming community for wanting to always hound Xbox over everything, while sweeping something arguably more egregious like FFXVI's performance mode under the rug.

Always better to sell realistic goals than false promises. Nice to see Todd Howard on the right side for once.

I think Final Fantasy 16; is a game worth playing because of the story, settings, and presentation. The combat while being arcadish is def. amazing if you are okay with that, and by the way for the performance, during the fight, it is better. But calling this game an RPG is simply false advertising imo :) Yet again, a lot of other games are called like that while being more an adventure game at the end.

Now... Yes :) We are in good hands with Xbox studios! Def. the best place if you love RPG like me (and you it seems). This is my favorite genre and Xbox is delivering on that front.

True, and I agree the gaming community at large is to blame for this more than DF. (70%+ Sony console owners) :)
And DF definitely praised whatever they saw during the Xbox showcase. They are still biased tho

But as DF is now kinda a norm for people to talk about game performance, their bias is really showing and does not help!

Final Fantasy XVI was the main reason I was looking forward to getting a PS5. I wanted there to be a few games out that I was interested in before I jumped into it. The Demon Souls remake and FFVII remake were 2 others I was interested in. I went ahead and just ended up purchasing the 2nd Horizon and the FFVII remake for the PS4. I'm hoping Sony still have some deep RPG's on the way. For now though, I'm going to wait.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

Sucks about Perfect Dark, I had begged for a new game for many years so I'm still just happy we're even getting a new one at all. That said, I'm really tired of these game announcements and then they go dark for several years with no new information. Definitely something MS really needs to work on in the future.

Untold stories behind Fallout: New Vegas??? This will be veeeeeeery interesting!

Part 2 of the Documentary series!

That's why I came away appreciating their 2022 not-E3 so much.  Get in, show some semblance of gameplay or in-engine features, have it releasing in the near future.
