I've been saying for years the Playstation brand is that popular even non asians prefer Playstation, But to me Nintendo is really up my ally in their games etc Then again I really love games on PS4 like Koihime Enbu, A Magical Virtual On, Border Break Japan Exclusive, Senran Kagura etc I kinda feel flattered those that never had any Asian in their DNA like these brands just ignore me I'm just being real even though I'm 1/6th asian :P

PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S vs Switch 2022 Sales Comparison Charts Through October 8

Here we see data representing the global sales through to consumers and change in sales performance of the three current platforms (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch) and three legacy platforms (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo 3DS) over comparable periods for 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. Also shown is the market share for each of the consoles over the same periods.

The holidays are gonna be very interesting to watch this year, with supply of the 9th gen home consoles easing.
Switch should be high gear as well with the arrival of Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, the associtated OLED model, and the overall momentum and evergreen catalog it has built up.

PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S vs Switch Launch Sales Comparison Through Week 100

This weekly series compares the aligned launch sales of the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

It should be noted the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X|S had a worldwide launch, while the PlayStation 5 launch was split over the course of two weeks. Also, the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017, while the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S launched during the holidays in November 2020.

PS5 Vs. Xbox Series X|S Vs. Switch Global:

  1. Switch: 30,599,713
  2. PS5: 24,192,239
  3. XSX|S: 17,328,832

Through the first 100 weeks available worldwide the Nintendo Switch is ahead of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Switch is ahead of the PS5 by 6.41 million units units and is 13.27 million units ahead of the Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 is ahead of the Xbox Series X|S by 6.86 million units.

The Switch has sold 30.60 million in 100 weeks worldwide, while the PS5 sold 24.19 million units and the Xbox Series X|S 17.33 million units.

Looking at the marketshare through 100 weeks, the Switch is in the lead. The Switch has a 42.4 percent marketshare, the PS5 sits at 33.6 percent, and the Xbox Series X|S at 24.0 percent.

PS5 Vs. Xbox Series X|S Vs. Switch US:

  1. Switch: 10,773,964
  2. PS5: 8,815,988
  3. XSX|S: 8,108,109

Through the first 100 weeks available in the US the Nintendo Switch is ahead of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Switch is ahead of the PS5 by 1.96 million units and is 2.67 million units ahead of the Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 is ahead of the Xbox Series X|S by 0.71 million units.

The Switch has sold 10.77 million in 100 weeks in the US, while the PS5 sold 8.82 million units and the Xbox Series X|S 8.11 million units.

Looking at the marketshare through 100 weeks, the Switch currently leads. The Switch has a 38.9 percent marketshare, the PS5 sits at 31.8 percent, and the Xbox Series X|S at 29.3 percent.

PS5 Vs. Xbox Series X|S Vs. Switch Europe (99 weeks):

  1. PS5: 8,288,411
  2. Switch: 7,744,653
  3. XSX|S: 4,678,458

The PlayStation 5 has been available for one week less than the Xbox Series X|S in Europe. After 99 weeks the PS5 is ahead of the Switch by 0.54 million units and is 3.61 million units ahead of the Xbox Series X|S. The Switch is ahead of the Xbox Series X|S by 3.07 million units.

The PS5 has sold 8.29 million in 99 weeks in Europe, while the Switch sold 7.74 million units and the Xbox Series X|S 4.68 million units.

Looking at the marketshare through 99 weeks, the PlayStation 5 currently leads. The PS5 has a 40.0 percent marketshare, the Switch sits at 37.4 percent, and the Xbox Series X|S at 22.6 percent.

PS5 Vs. Xbox Series X|S Vs. Switch Japan:

  1. Switch: 7,287,904
  2. PS5: 1,984,533
  3. XSX|S: 367,527

Through the first 100 weeks available in Japan the Switch is ahead of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S by a wide margin. The Switch is ahead of the PS5 by 5.30 million units and is 6.92 million units ahead of the Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 is ahead of the Xbox Series X|S by 1.62 million units.

The Switch has sold 7.29 million units in 100 weeks in Japan, while the PS5 has sold 1.98 million units, and the Xbox Series X|S 0.37 million units.

Looking at the marketshare through 100 weeks, the Switch currently leads. The Switch has a 75.6 percent marketshare, the PS5 sits at 20.6 percent, and the Xbox Series X|S at 3.8 percent.

The improvement in supply should hopefully mean Switch won't have to deal with material shortages either, as it too has been affected by the chip crunch to a lesser extent.

Also, though I realize they'd only tell half the story these days, there are times I really miss the software charts.



If you check the Platform Totals page and look at Japan sales, the Switch is now exactly 6 million units behind the Game Boy.
If it maintains its current pace, there's a chance it could pass it, and possibly even the DS, by the end of next year!

Completely different tech and nodes, Switch shortages have been much less severe than the other consoles, so I don't think PS5 improving their production would mean there is less shortage to Switch.
