so? Europe and China are both considered "others" and it seems to me that Europeans get more excited about the Olympics than us Americans do

Mario and Sonic isn't a bad game. I wouldn't pay full price, but it's a fun 4 player party game, and for some folks, that's what the Wii's all about.
I mean, like parties. I like games. What's wrong with party games? Especially when you're crunked up and whatnot. Loads of fun. You can't really get a whole room of drunk people to pass around the controller for a few rounds of Galaxy.

Except the Wii hasn't been released in China. Your other point stands though.

forgot about that =p
So what? Are we all suppsed to spit on the floor now? M&S is a nice game and it appeals to all kinds of gamers. Sega is certainly happy with the M&S collaboration.
And SMG might end up at 10 million worlwide one day. Not enough love? Not enough money for Nintendo? It´s Myiamoto´s best selling (new) game in a long time.
I have both games, btw (SMG & M&S DS). M&S DS is exactly what I expected. Not more. not less. Myiamoto supervised the M&S development, afaik.

i have both too (SMG,M&S wii version)
but i think Galaxy deserves to sell more IMO
And I think Monkey Island 1&2 deserved to sell 100+ million copies. That´s how the world goes...

I know the Olympics are huge in Europe and all, but who in their right minds would purchase M&S before Galaxy? I really do not understand it.

Mostly people who are looking to play games with their friends and family, I'd imagine. Don't get me wrong, I love Galaxy way more, and wasn't that big a fan of M&S, but Galaxy is at heart a single player game. And I believe Sonic is much bigger in Europe than Mario is, so that would explain quite a bit.
Besides, I kind of dig what's happening here. It makes all those "Wii is for kiddies causals only" so ironically delicious. That said, I admit I laughed when I first heard the Sega executive's expectations for this game. Mmm, crow...
