I think it will sell about 18 million, so 4-5 million less than Zero Dawn's lifetime.

High price, PS5 shortage, not being huge enough a jump over Zero Dawn in perceived quality, and getting overshadowed by other games may translate to a decline.

This reminds me, when this game was first announced, didn't people think it would be the next Miles Morales? As in more like a 1.5 jump instead of a 2.0 jump? Like Splatoon 2 was to Splatoon 1. I feel like I heard a lot of people say things like that back in the day. If that perception still exists, then many may skip it that would play it if they viewed it as a full sequel.

If Elden Ring has sold 12m units right now, Horizon has likely done around 3m in 2 weeks. There's a chance it could fall short of the first games 20m, simply because there is much more competition far earlier in the generation. Not just from Elden Ring but this year Hogwarts, God of War, Avatar, FFXVI, Forspoken... All looking to be big AAA, Action RPG/Adventure RPG games that'll eat some 40hour or so worth of play time and all look to be releasing in the next 12months.

Limited PS5 stock in its launch year won't help either.

Its still early days but I think sony is more about maintaining RRP this generation, so I don't think it'll be discounted for a while and when it does I think it'll be pretty pricey still $55-60. All of which I think will hurt its legs but mean its a bigger finacial success

15m-18m

Exactly, I plated the first game and about 64% done of Forbidden West thus far. It's definitely a 2.0 jump.

I never said I view it as a 1.5 jump, I wouldn't know, just that I recall people expressing that view when it was announced, and that will impact sales potential if so.
