For those upset about SNY's poor late PS2 hardware reporting, what about MS and their extreme lack and/or total disregard of XB1 or XB Series hardware reporting (in the year 2025)?

I don't want to sound mean. But.. it's like.. it's the xbox series x.

Nobody like... well, you know... cares....

(i) How is Xbox relevant to the current discussion? (ii) Yes, I can speak on behalf of everyone in saying that it is upsetting that Microsoft refuses to report precise hardware figures. Would be good to know if XBSXS has shipped 20mil or 60mil.

So they just decided to report a false number because it doesnt matter and who cares? That just seems so bizarre to me. Im still considering switch the winner at 156 anyway, the figure was 155 for as long as i can remember. So you can say im coping, and maybe i am, i dont care to think too deeply about it, all i know is that its been 155 forever, these 5 million new consoles have no logical explanation that i can see, so this is just what im going to go with, it just makes the most sense. Switch will officially be number 1 sometime in 2026. There is no way it doesnt make it.

The final figure was known to have been millions above 155m for a long time and in fact it was 158.7m on here a few years ago so there's no justification at all for treating 155m as the final total. This Tweet explains why the range was known to have been from the high 150's to the early 160's so the final total being barely above 160m is in line with that.

Fine switch will be number 1 after it passes 158.7

Which "switch" version thou?

The handheld only variant who can't "switch" or the console/handheld hybrid?

If anything, switch numbers are shady and unfair since it includes a handhel only variant.

I guess psportal will be counted towards ps5 sales since ya know..

Its a ps5 handheld.

This thread reminds me of how happy I was when the Switch passed the 120 million mark with enough momentum
to one day reach 150 million. Then when it was clear to be a 150 million seller like the two greats of what felt a long ago era.
Then earlier this year as I realised it was passing the DS, which I felt for so long was a slim possibility.
I enjoyed that.

Yes Sony’s behaviour bothered me, but I was happy enough with what the Switch has achieved.
It’s a big winner of its own time that didn’t always seem possible.

I have enjoyed that journey, and I appreciate the opportunity to remember that.

Are you saying that the Lite version is not a video game console? The conversation is about the best-selling video game console, whereas it being a home console, handheld or hybrid

Anyways, Nintendo does reveal the numbers for each version of the Switch, so, no, the numbers are not shady. You can play around taking Switch's total number and subtracting the Lite version if you will, but I don't see the point of it

Who cared deeply and found it to be a major concern as to PS2's exact sales in the distant past, prior to SW1, or even prior to this thread?

Nothing is a concern, until it's deemed a problem. Not every problem, is deemed to be a concern.

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

I think I can read the tone of this comment, and the one before it in the chain.

Still now I find myself wondering if PSTV sales were included in PS Vita sales.

It was a repackaging of the same chipset.

…has this not always been a major concern? I know for me it’s been irksome seeing “Over 155mil PS2 systems sold” instead of a precise figures as has been given for almost all commercially successful gaming hardware.

Not a big enough concern for enough people that SNY didn't do anything about it. Until recently anyway, when that changed, and because of that, we now know it's 160+ million. Is that information not acceptable now for some reason? Would it be acceptable from MS in the future if they also decide to give updated XB hardware figures? Would that information be ignored or treated as made up and false by some in a future thread, comparing XB console hardware sales to another brand?
