Forums - Sales - The Road to 160m+ for Nintendo Switch

As far as I know the International language version of NSW2 is not sold through retailers, only the Japanese version. With the NSW2 international version being sold directly through Nintendo.jp (might have changed in the meantime).

Tourist/exporters buying a Switch retail in Japan would then levitate to NSW1 instead of NSW2. There is still a FX currency advantage to be had. And foreigners can redeem VAT.

I think we should keep something in mind going forward in this thread: failing to reach 160 or 161 million units is not a failure for Nintendo. I really doubt it is at all part of their business strategy going forward and shouldn’t be. Do they want to sell more Switch 1s? Yes. Are they going to sacrifice their profits to make that happen? No.

So when people say, Nintendo really needs to push out some sales, bundles, or advertise more I think we have to remember their sole focus going forward now is getting the Switch 2 into as many homes as possible and selling their software on both ecosystems. The continued success of the Switch in any capacity is icing on the cake at this point and we all better get cozy watching a fight where the fighter doesn’t really have the motivation to take too many chances or too many swings. It’s a war of attrition, and one that if the manufacturing, tariff, consumer appetite variables all align could be won by Nintendo but no one is getting fired if it doesn’t happen.

not gonna lie ive been anxiously awaiting rol's next post to see if switch reaching 160 is feasible, as he is the only one who brings an analysis the people can trust in. the good news is, judging by his latest post, his official position is still that switch will reach 160. the bad news is that i think we are going to have to wait until next year for rols next post. so its going to be awhile before we can get a sense of where we are at in this race. as for me, i am going to continue to go with the official narrative, although i do understand it is subject to change. my hope is that rol is continuing to stand strong, but it will be a little bit until we know for sure.

It would be interesting if we had a new pool about the Switch passing the 160M or not. I feel like it's been a while since we haven't had one about it

Only 7 days and a couple of hours until Nintendo’s next earnings release
for the quarter ending 30th of September.
Might be good to get one last poll going that day
while the interested people are checking this topic.

Damn Rol didn't bother posting an update for the quarter report this time and hasn't posted in over a month in general. Hopefully he returns to post a final update at some point but either way this thread has just about run its course now and with yet another big user potentially leaving for good this site in general is starting to die at this point it seems.

Is he gone for good? Has he ever indicated that?

Rol often takes breaks I’ve noticed. Definitely a stretch to say he’s “leaving [this site] for good.”

Also… why does everyone focus such negativity? Lol I love this site all the same as the day I first joined it. Doesn’t matter if there are only like 20-40 gaming forums posts across the entire site per day (yes I keep track of these things), it’ll always be a special place to me. I also keep a keen eye on ResetEra & X— it’s a very nice balance. VGChartz for a small community of people to chat with, RE for instant access to all gaming developments, X for getting excited about anything gaming related.

I considered postting on this thread when the financial report was out, but basically everything related to the "road to the 160M" was already being discussed in other threads and pages. I'm glad you posted something here to give this thread life again

He hasn't indicated that but he has expressed less interest in sales stuff compared to before so combined with seemingly not bothering to even visit the site for the quarter report does make me think that even if he returns at some point which I kinda expect that regular activity from him is probably over.

I don't recall one this long from the time I've been coming here and that's why I said "potentially" meaning it's a possibility cause of the stuff I said above, particularly the lack of bothering to post here on Tuesday. I still like this place and do enjoy the tight knit community feel of it but it does get to a point where activity levels get concerningly low so I think things could start getting outright dire by 2027-2028 unless new active users like you or LegitHyperbole sign up by then. Forum activity was in a decent place the first half of this year but lately is probably the lowest it's ever been so I wouldn't say I'm focusing on negativity and am more so pointing out a concerning trend.

Thanks. No posts in this thread from Rol after a quarter report is extremely unusual so felt like I had to point that out.
