I know this thread isn't about tariffs, but can anyone explain how they're supposed to help the American economy?

It could only potentially do that if the countries targetted by them don't impose increased tariffs back at USA. But they do.
And even if they didn't, it wouldn't neccesarily improve the economy but rather benefit certain companies. Which doesn't always "trickle down" to the general public.

Where are you getting this information from?
There is no definitive evidence that the Nintendo Switch (original, OLED, or Lite models) is expected to see a price increase in the United States in 2025. However, recent developments suggest potential price adjustments for related products due to market conditions and tariffs, though nothing has been confirmed for the U.S. market specifically for the original Switch family.
Taken from Grok, as of right now the only place that has an official price increase in Canada, no where else.

The tariff stuff is still an issue. August 1st is when I believe they go into affect, so whatever Sony and Nintendo have already manufactured shipped is safe and hopefully both have been preparing a good amount of stock to fight the price raising. The stock will not last forever though and it just seems like the inevitable is coming (rising prices) and that will affect them all, not just Switch 1. Switch Lite for $199.99/ Switch 1 for $299.99 might not look very bad next to 499.99 Switch 2 and/or 599.99 PS5/Xbox series. So much can happen because of this nonsense, we really don't know what will things look like in the future. |
2 tweaks and I am much closer to completely agreeing with you. One point you make, and as others have alluded to is the lack of price cuts on the original Switch line ... in the present economic climate Nintendo may be thinking of trading price stability in place of the normal price cut. Most of the world has seen a great deal of inflation the past half decade and I think while unpopular this might be a sound strategy.

North America refers to Canada, Greenland, Mexico, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, and the United States........

What Trump and his administration believe is that tariffs are taxes on foreign countries, so high tariffs will send a lot of money into the United States.
But tariffs are paid by American companies at the point of entry in the US and then these additional costs are passed on to American consumers. So what tariffs actually do is a redistribution of wealth within the USA, from the average Americans to the rich Americans because the average American will pay higher taxes while the rich receive tax cuts. This redistribution means that the average American can afford fewer goods which will result in lower sales, which in turn hurts the American economy.
It's a story of the collective stupidity of the USA that voted an idiot to become their president. The stupidity extends to the Republican party who has handed over their power in congress to the stupid president. It's a story of lemmings running towards the cliff while celebrating themselves for how smart they are.
Legend11 correctly predicted that GTA IV will outsell Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I was wrong.

Appreciate the explanation. I'm starting to think this Trump guy is a real jerk.

Of course Trump is a jerk haha. The American companies are gonna pay for that.
I don’t know if it’s true because I don’t follow American politics but he wants to do that to import the production in the US and creates more jobs but it will not work as the prices would go up if the production is delocalized in the US.
Well it seems even in japan the switch is slowing down a lot,its chances are getting slimmer by the month.
It seem after years of speculations and massive discussions, ps2 will remain the king of consoles.
As it should.
(even thou the switch is the ONLY modern console who deserved it)
