Forums - Sales - The Road to 160m+ for Nintendo Switch

The PS2 is a paper champion anyway, it doesn't deserve the title it has. The only reason is has the record is because Sony bungled the PS3 and kept shipping PS2s in developing countries for years afterwards.

If Nintendo did the same thing with Switch or DS, they would easily be no.1, the PS2 needed several extra years of sales to get to 160.

Nintendo could have easily sold 165 million DS' and could do the same for the Switch, the PS3 being a terrible launch isn't something Sony should be proud of.

It took PS2 11 years to hit 150 million (Feb 14, 2011 according to Sony), the DS and Switch are both way above that, the PS2 isn't able to match prime for prime DS or Switch 1 sales, that's simply a fact, it needed to be dragged across the finish line with several extra years of sales. The Switch hit 150 million at its 8th year anniversary, 8 years vs 11 years is a laughable gap, that's not even close.

I don't want to see unreasonable things but people can make any kind of predictions they want like how people can comment on them if they want. For the bolded since you once again are lumping me expecting the Switch to finish somewhere between 140m and 170m back in 2021 with a general expectation of it most likely finishing in the 150s with people thinking 170m was still a possibility as recently as this year I'm not gonna engage any more after this.

Last thing I'll say is you thinking I come across as a Nintendo hater sometimes is just proof of your major bias since I try to be objective and thus have made both positive and negative posts about Nintendo and the Switch depending on the circumstances but you only focus on the latter while ignoring the former. If you're just trolling then have fun being annoying I guess but if you're not then man you've got a problem.

Norion this isnt about Nintendo, this is about your post. You made these posts and I commented on them. I asked you the questions (why should others stop making their predictions as you suggested) and you have now responded (changing your stance ie the predictions are ok now lol). Thats all I seeked to accomplish. You acting like a victim now (your claims of me viewing you as a Nintendo hater) just shows you arent as unbias as you claim, proven by your constant need to prove it. Stop trying to make the conversation something its not, when its about your post.

I mean look at your behavior, you made post shouting demands at others lol (stop making optimistic predictions everyone). Got called out for it by me, finally stuck to the subject/question I have been asking you (why it bothers you others have optimistic predictions), and you answered (realizing you should have no problem with what others predict). You are now a victim (stop calling me a Nintendo hater) because you had to change your stance (people can make any kind of predictions they want). No one did anything to you, your pride/ego is getting the best of you because you had to admit to were wrong. Anyways good chat!

At this point 160 million is very unlikely. It is all about the Switch 2 now for Nintendo. They do not care. I will be very surprised if they cut the price of the SW 1.

So wah wah. Switch hit 150 million sold in 8 years, took the PS2 11 years ... that's total and complete destruction head to head.

The only reason the PS2 finished higher is because Sony was clearing out a bunch of them to developing countries for like an extra 4-5 years to get an extra 10 million sold.

That's not impressive at all.

If you have two movies and they one makes 1 billion dollars box office, and the other 1.1 billion but it needs 5 re-releases to get that extra 0.1 billion, I'm sorry but I consider the first movie to actually be more popular in that case. If Nintendo sold the Switch 2 for like 12 years as the PS2 did, Switch would destroy the PS2's final total. Anyone doubt that seriously? No? Then that's pretty much the definition of a paper champion.

I get impressed by how some people take these comments about future predictions for console sales so seriously. I think I'm more impressed by how they can remember things from months or even years ago. Just to expose the commenter as someone who did very bad prediction. Chill out, guys. A day has only 24 hours. Do you really want to spend your time making a fuss about mere speculations about something as trivial as video game?

You know what's impressive? How our brain prioritizes those kinds of comments, storing them almost like core memories, while discarding much more important data. Damn brain and its poor memory organization!

Back to the topic, I think the Switch still has a 55% (like supersonic!) chance of surpassing the PS2, confusing everyone.

I see it as possible thanks to the Switch Lite, its price, and the high demand for the Switch 2. People will keep buying the original when they can’t find the new one in stores during the holidays and much of the year. Plus, the new games still coming out for the first one.

I think the Switch deserves it, and I’ll support it by gifting a Lite to my nephew.

May i ask, why do nintendo fans care so much if  it outsells the ps2 or not?

For example ps2 is my favorite and in my eyes best console of all time, absolutely unbeatable.
If switch outsells it it doesnt change a thing.

For me—somebody who was burned by Nintendo with the Wii U (i grew up on GCN) & having only really grown interested in gaming with Zelda BotW (NSW)—it’d really be something special to see. Especially coming off Wii U’s commercial disaster.

Also, this thread has quickly turned very hostile. Some of you need to chill out.

Ps2 doesnt deserve to be called the nr1 console?

Ps2 had a pacman lead over xbox/dc/ngc combined.

Ps2 didnt had a "handheld only"version that somehow still counts as a switch sale.

It has one of the largest gaming library ever full of incredible games.

Ps2 whas not released in a industrie that is as huge as it is now.

It took gaming to the next level.

Don't be so buthurt that the switch may or may not outsell it.

25 years later, the PS2 continues to make some people exceedingly butthurt. Let's see if Switch can break that record!
