Forums - Sales - PS5 Ships 17.3 Million Units as of December 2021, PS4 Ships 116.8 Million

PS4 is actually 116.9, but it would have a hard time matching the Gameboy.

As for the PS5, the shortages hit them hard, because of this, the software numbers are lower than last year.
Q4 for FY2021 seems close to what the PS4 shipped in the same timeframe.

The huge difference is on Q3 FY2021 compared to Q3 FY2014 for the PS4.

It's yet to be seen if shortages will improve this year or not.

Interesting enough, their revenue and profit are the highest ever.

Sony over estimated post Covid rebound. They got the rebound timing off. This should literally be the case for Nintendo and Xbox as well. Sony can’t be the only one this is happening to.

With the series S and switch being readily available for purchase on Amazon I have to disagree. The series X and Ps5 unfortunately are being severely limited because of their components; and it looks like series S is taking advantage.

Not true in Amazon US, the only readily available Switch, in the retail price, is Red Neon. Oled and lite only third-party seller above the retail price.

No double helix for PS5, it will probably will never get close to the Switch. Because if shortages won't end before 2023, both PS4 and Switch have such a big distance that the PS5 won't be able to catch up.

At the same time, PS5( with one more holiday) is 17,30M vs Switch with 17,79.

Ms this quarter my guess is 4,3-4,5M

Nintendo 8,3-9.9M

That will humble them for sure yikes.
Nintendo is clearly looking at this and saying to themselves they won't start a seperated gen soon.

Oof, way lower than expected.
Maybe they won't even be able to produce 15mil this CY.

Holidays and launches don't matter much if you can't produce enough units to sell them. The PS5 wouldn't have sold better or worse if it didn't launch in the holidays. Same for Switch, the first year of a successful console is usually selling out and selling what you can produce. Sony however can't produce this gen, so it will not compete with the Switch aligned anymore because it won't be able to catch up. Even catching up to PS4 if it even managed that will be a challenge.

Holliday sales, in western countries, count 50% of sales in retail. If you talking about Japan, I agree. But all western countries holiday period and last quarter counts for 50% sales in retail.
