Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Kills Beloved YouTube Channel

I think it's extremely stupid what Nintendo does with these music uploads on Youtube.

That said Gilvasunner's channel isn't even close to dead since he still has over 6400 videos left. Sadly Nintendo removed all videos from the last 3 years, which includes a lot of Switch game music.

Scummy shit Nintendo. They should upload their stuff themselves or simply claim and monetize these videos.

such is life

And yet I can still sleep at night.

Nintendo owns their material, it is their right. I don't personally understand it, but it is still their right. This reminds me of the whole Metallica versus Napster, and Metallica was in the right.

Vengeance 32 gb

RTX 4090 Ventus 3x E OC

Switch OLED

Sorry to come off this way, but it's not the dude's music. As scummy as it is, Nintendo can do it and they'd be in the right. Still, it's actually counterintuitive when you think about it. Why not allow millions of people to keep listening to your music if you're not going to offer a solution yourself, right?

But there's many other ways to listen to their music. Even on YouTube still. I find it really stupid that they're taking down videos that aren't even monetized but okay. I'm not going to get into an uproar about it. Life goes on. There's far greater injustices out there to focus on for me anyway.

Whatever, I will just find another way to stream Nintendo songs illegally, or download the songs myself

Yep - Super Mario Odyssey's limited OST (like 12 tracks) and the Pokemon mainline game OSTs can be purchased off of iTunes

I hope they release music on streaming services when everyone else is doing it already.

Japanese companies has a weird, conservative backwards mindset with everything and japanese people are slow to adapt and get into new technology. Physical albums and movies are still a thing there

In Japan not every record company release their songs on streaming. I have absolutely no hope for Nintendo to do anything unless it become a must i.e. japanese consumers demanding Nintendo music to be on streaming services

Nah. Legal doesn't equal right.  They are morally in the wrong here.  Nintendo loses nothing from the use of their music on Youtube, as they aren't selling the music, nor does it seem likely that they ever will.  But, by taking it down, the channel owner and all of the people that would view the videos and/or listen to the music lose.  So, they are literally taking from everyone for absolutely no reason.

As usual, instead of offering legal and fair alternatives for us to enjoy something they created but haven't often re-released, in this case music from Nintendo games, Nintendo DMCA'd GilvaSunner's channel to death.

Sure, they could upload their music to the Nintendo YouTube channels and other social media accounts, but that would require common sense.

You call it common sense, but Nintendo doesn't see it that way. They see it as giving away something they own that has monetary value (selling it to streaming services and/or releasing limited edition vinyl records etc.).

And that is why I don't mind any of this stuff. Same for other companies as well. It's their creation. They sweated, toiled, bled and worked really hard to make these works of art. So who am I to tell them what to do with all of it?

As I customer, I think I have the right to demand companies to make me satisfied. Should I support a company that purposefully deprives me from something for no reason? ?
