Forums - Gaming - Jim Ryan Wants to Expand PS Outside Console Market, Future Bungie Games to Release on Rival Consoles

Based on the Bungie acquisition and the direction this leads, branching out, what are the odds that SNY will seriously attempt to acquire Take Two?
For the most part, let Rockstar keep doing what it's doing with GTA, just like Bungie with Destiny, and simply benefit directly from what it can offer.
What kind of movies and TV series could you make with the TT IP?..

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

After a while PlayStation will become a Game Studio Only company and let go off the PlayStation Hardware but that's atleast 10 years Away.

So they are moving towards that

Sony going 3rd party confirmed!

(sorry I'm late to the thread)

Since people couldn't stop claiming Nintendo should go 3rd party a couple of years back I will from now on claim that Sony should go 3rd parti in nauseam.

And hey, Sony's legit doing that. Seeing as there is no sign of Breath of the Wild on Steam.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Why would they drop a part of their business that is doing well?

It doesn't matter if Sony pivots to providing software, if they can provide the console hardware too that is a bonus for them

first - they don't make much money on hardware, second - they will not drop it till at least 10 years from now as i mentioned.

3 things will force them to become a Software only Studio gaming company.

1)Apple and Google and Probably Amazon will have their own consoles.Apple already has the Apple TV but it is far from a console and poorly powered but in the next 5 years Apple will try to get into Console business.Google and Amazon will soon follow.

2)Streaming will become a reality even for multiplayer games, but it is at least 10 years away.

3)Big Tech and all the industries have gotten way too consolidated and monopolized,US Government will break the monopolies and Single App Store model.Apple itself is losing the fight to a keep its iOS App Store monopolized.Something similar is going in Europe and South Korea

The “console war” as we know it is basically over. Sometime in the last couple of years revenue from console games and games consoles made up less than 50% of the games industry total revenue, and that number is only going to continue to decline.

Microsoft and Sony’s commitment to multi platform service titles is both companies telegraphing to the business community where they think the future direction of the industry is. Games consoles will still exist, but they will not be the center of the industry anymore (arguably they already aren’t)

7th generation (2005-2013) will probably be remembered as peak game console.

Still being played on PC regardless though, and that's honestly the main point.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

1.) We're seeing the opposite happen with Google. They've already dropped out of the industry. They're now selling Stadia to third parties, they've demoted the entire Stadia brand.

Amazon has been trying to get into the gaming industry for a while, and they haven't gotten very far.

Apple remains to be seen. They've had a lot of projects that they've been trying for several years to get off the ground that have to go anywhere.

2.) It's a good thing that Sony also has streaming tech. Ironically they've been working on it for a while.

3.) I'm not sure how that would help Apple/Google/Amazon, while hurting Sony.

1)Google has dropped out of the streaming business which they never should have gone into as i said before,it is atleast 10 years away.

Apple will be the one that starts then Google,Samsung,Amazon will follow. It will be more of a Hardware platform thing.

Sony and Microsoft will move away from Hardware platform to a software oriented role.

3)A multi Platform App Store would benefit somebody like Steam and Epic Games Store and Amazon who are behind it.Apple also is moving towards a more services based business.

Sony can also benefit from it but it will have to acquire a lot more studios to bolster its exclusives lineup like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video do in the Streaming Segment.

Sony will have to focus on either of 2 segments,A multi Platform App Store or A big gaming Studio with across multiple app store.FOCUS is the key topic here

Sony has one big Head Start that it is the biggest Gaming Studio,it is similar to Disney  in the Movie Segment.

Ironically, Sony is using Microsoft for their streaming tech lol. Well, it was either Amazon or Microsoft anyway.

I can see Amazon purchasing the likes of Ubisoft to get their foothold in the gaming market. Luna is off to a slow start and so are Amazon's first party studios. Adding Ubisoft's catalog fully into Luna can really booster that get Amazon Games up and running. Unlikely though.

You called down the thunder, now reap the whirlwind

Guess at the end which console maker will be the last to go 3rd party....
