Forums - Gaming - Vanillaware has outdone themselves; They have written the best storyline to appear in a JRP in like 20 years.

My trifecta of the best Written storylines for the JRPG genre are Xenogears, Chrono Cross and Vagrant Story. To this day NO other JRPG has come close to reaching the heights that these games achieved in regards to their narratives. I stumbled upon a competitor.

This was initially going to be a review thread but there really is no way to talk about this amazing adventure without potential spoilers. I tried(Beat it on the 5th and have tried to write a review thread like 5 times) 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is part interactive visual novel(70%)/RTS(30%) This is something that you should experience blind. Don't research; just play for the ultimate experience(and to avoid any spoilers). I have always looked at Vanillaware as the gorgeous 2D art people, but George Kamitani and Vanillaware have crafted an extraordinary story that has taken a place at same table that Xenogears, Vagrant Story and Chrono Cross sit at.

If you have a PlayStation product you need to play 13 Sentinels. Switch owners, this April(13th) you need play 13 Sentinels. Put it on you wishlist. The best I can do is compare this experience to my trifecta of greatest JRPG stories. I hope that will be enough.

It's a great game. The story reminds me somewhat of Megazone 23. I still find Nier Automata and Yakuza 0 as the best stories to ever appear in games. 13 is a great game and more people should play it.

For the few that know Megazone 23, you get an idea what to expect. For those that don't...go watch it and find out where a certain 1999 film got its idea from.

DO NOT READ THIS: ONLY FOR LEYNOS

Spoiler!
My guy, why would you do this? I went and read the summary about Mega 23 and that is essentially the biggest plot twist for the game. go edit that out. Think.

I bought this for my daughter this Christmas, but neither of us has started playing it yet. Guess this ringing endorsement should tell me to put this game on the top of the queue.

Is it coming to the Switch? I don't know if it's getting an european retail release...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

It is coming to Switch but the only release I have seen so far is a digital Japan release.

It's coming to the Switch! It'll be out on April 12.

I'm really excited to pick this up when it releases on Switch, which is strange for me as neither RTS nor visual novel type games are my thing.

I've been trying to broaden my gaming horizons lately though, and I'm a big fan of kaiju/mechs, Vanillaware's art, and sci-fi/time travel/interconnected narratives (I adored Dark on Netflix and films like Cloud Atlas and 12 Monkeys for example) so I've decided to branch out a bit and give it a try.

At present, I think the best narrative I've experienced in a game is Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice.

A bit sad that I'm a bit rebuke by the RTS portion of the game since I largely prefer Turn-Based strategy game. Indeed, the title has been celebrated for it's story aspect.
I guess if I've got an empty spot in my gaming calendar at some point during the summer, I might consider giving it a worthy shot.

I felt the same way, but when you play the game it becomes very clear that the RTS section, while fun, is not the point at all. Normal mode is a cakewalk. If you reeaally don't want to be bothered at all with the RTS part, just switch to easy. Not only is it brain dead at that point, the enemy waves are reduced. No consequences.

Does it run 60 fps on ps5 or series s? If so I will consider buying.
