Forums - Gaming - RROD, the issue that will get you jumped on.

My biggest complaint with the RROD issue is that people simply assume it is fixed, but it isn't. Just today I talked to a gentleman on Craigslist who was selling his Forza/Marvel Xbox 360 bundle because he had to replace it after a RROD. It's a Falcon unit (which obviously includes an HDMI port).

This isn't an uncommon story at all. I just recently made a new friend who has a 360. He had to replace his himself, because it failed without an RROD. Another of my friends had another failure over Christmas, although his turn around time was less than two weeks (he waited until January to return it to MS).

The Falcon units are still very young, so we're obviously not seeing nearly as many Falcon failure reports as we are of older models, but the Falcon still has a very high failure percentage.

"PS3 doesn't have any games" "PS3 AIN'T GOT NO GAMES!" "There are no games on the PS3 worth playing" etc. are just general quotes that were either implicitly said throughout all of 2007, or are simply implied by those today who don't want to come to grips with the fact that good games DO exist on the platform. I use them to call people out on said implications, and debunk it with the fact that there are several great exclusive and multiplatfrom games on the PS3. It's just that people (mostly Xbox fans) want to hold on to the 2007 mentality, but not look like they're biased, so instead of saying "IT AINT GOT NO GAMES!", they'll change "NO" to "great", but most can see through it easily. And then when games like MGS4 come out, that "no" that changed to "great" will then change to "more excellent/more higher reviewed/etc" and it will probably keep going until the next gen comes. It's like when an obvious troll who is flaming a thread will whip out "I have all 3 consoles, so by default, I'm not biased"....You may own all three, but people can see right through you

What great exclusives does it have? I've played most of them and it has several good games, but nothing that stands out.

Good thing that you can see right through me. You're confusing my apparent hatred of the PS3 with my bitterness that almost a year into owning the console, it still spends most of its time acting as a Blu-ray player/DVD upscaler. I bought the stupid thing to play games on it and there isn't anything that keeps me coming back to the console once I beat a game. Hopefully MGS4 will change that but I'm not holding my breath.

And why do you keep misquoting me? I said the PS3 has "good" games, just nothing that really knocks my socks off. That's a fair, and whether you like to admit it or not, balanced opinion. The 360 has Mass Effect, Halo, and Gears. The Wii has SMG, Brawl, and TP. IMO, the PS3 doesn't have even one exclusive that can match up to any one of those six games, and most review scores agree with me.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

I can understand the fear and unease the owners of more vulnerable versions of XBox 360 feel about the issue, but burying their head in the sand like an ostrich is irrational and won't get them very far: they should hope, instead, that the RRoD's happen within the 3 years warranty, so that they can have a free replacement, but also that they happen not too soon, so that the replacements would have a bigger probability of being new models instead of old refurbished ones.

I think the problem is that the Sony fanboys, when it comes to games, forget the fact that for every time you can list a "great" PS3 game, you can list 2-3 "great" X360 games.

Great games are a subjective term, but the fact is, coming from a user-rated and critic-rated standpoint, the X360 has the vastly, VASTLY better library. Both after 18 months, and currently, for the cheaper point of entry.

Need I quote Gamerankings?

Xbox 360:
90%+ Games: 10 (3 Console-Exclusive)
80%+ Games: 82 (25 Console-Exclusive)

9.0+ Games: 6
8.0+ Games: 43 (3 aren't out yet)

PS3:
90%+ Games: 3 (0 Console-Exclusive)
80%+ Games: 36 (10 Console-Exclusive)

9.0+ Games: 1 (Final Fantasy XIII, which isn't out yet)
8.0+ Games: 13 (Interestingly enough, 7 aren't out yet)

So basically, from EVERY single possible angle, the 360 has the much, MUCH better library. Users, Reviewers, Exclusives, it's all there, and in much, much better numbers.

So in the end, it just leads me to believe that rampant fanboyism is what skews any sort of discussion: no Sony fans want to cite numbers, or anything outside of their own opinions (after all, even in the Sony camp, it's not everyones opinion, and my numbers prove it).

So for everything said and done, the PS3 still isn't the gaming system the 360 is, or even what the Wii is when it comes to exclusives. It still languishes in 3rd place for highly rated games. Sure, you thought Folklore was RPG GOTY, but no critic or average user rating ever thought that. And for that reason, I can say that EDF2017 was my Shooter of the year. That's merely my opinion, not derived from any sort of objectivism...Just like most fanboys, because unless data is involved, it's meaningless arguments.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Isn't a lot of what makes a game "good" rather subjective with reviewers these days, anyway?

I mean, let's take Halo 3, and take it objectively for a change. The only reason Halo 3 got enormous ratings was because it was Halo 3. If it was the same game, but renamed "Space Battle 2000" and given honest reviews, I can't see it faring nearly as well. It had three awesome chapters, sandwiched between six chapters of flat out generic mediocrity.

Gears of War earned its scores. Mass Effect earned its scores. Dead Rising earned its scores. Call of Duty 4 earned its scores. Halo 3 coasted in with a mediocre campaign, plot holes, and shamefully substandard graphics and got high rankings based solely on the fact that it was Halo 3.

The PS3 is still looking for truly killer titles, but saying it has "no good games" and then listing Halo 3 as a "great game" that no PS3 title can touch is just flat out ridiculous. The PS3 has already had multiple Halo 3 or better quality games. What is needs is its counterpart to Gears of War, and its counterpart to Mass Effect. If GTA 4 was a PS3 exclusive but sucked, it would still sell a gazillion titles and garner high scores just because it's the next GTA. Same with Halo 3.

rocket i think your problem is that you aren't playing the games. You are critiquing them. Ask anybody that has ever become a critic of anything and you'll realize they hate what they do.
food critics find food boring and uninspired
movie critics find movies trite and unoriginal
when you start to look at something from a critics point of view, you take yourself out of the experience in order to look at it from a certain perspective. You do not immerse yourself in the "art" that was designed to be played, and not critiqued for whatever similar game elements it shares with other games.
Play the game next time.
I thought heavenly sword was a phenomenal game. It does some things different from GoW. I'm not saying buy into every clone game. But give stuff a chance before you liken to it other games and claim rip-off.
The real hard part is making a game with the same feel. There are tons of copycat games. Some get the feel right, and things just come together. So try listening to the feel of the game. I'll tell you right now halo3 don't have it and niether does GeOW. Dead Rising could have been perfect had they designed for feel rather than marketing. There is such thing as a feel. It's what makes certain books best sellers, certain tv shows popular, and movies, oscar's.
Like family guy----> american dad. Same exact humor and formula. No feel. sucky show.
try playing like a gamer, and not some snooty elitist.

@Bmaker: stop trying to convince Rocketpig of the fact that the Wii and PS3 have good games which he can play on a console that actually functions. Guys like him are the sole reason that MS still haven't fixed the RROD issue because they keep buying the product blindly regardless of quality or functionality.

What an ignorant comment. Just one post before you, I said the Wii had a few great games and several good ones, which is why I bought it. Again.

BTW, owned a PS3 since August of last year... Still waiting for an exclusive that's more than "decent". Why is it so hard for Sony to come out with a great game when the console is 18 months old and why is it so hard for PS3 fanboys to admit that the console has yet to provide any amazing exclusives?

Apparently you haven't play Uncharted yet, that remains my favorite game for having the best story-line and combination of traditional and motion controls, not to mention it looks amazing.

I've come to the conclusion that the great majority of people in this forums have too much free time on their hands. Either that, or they rarely use their free time to actually PLAY the consoles instead of TALKING about them. Or maybe most of the members are just poor, or don't have friends with games or can't even afford to rent...or ....geeez... go play something, for crying the fuck out loud.

Patience, my friends, patience.

The reality is that the PS2 still has the best games and most impressive library of them all. Nothing on any of the new consoles has managed to surpass MGS3, FF12 or DMC3.

We're being a little too hard on the new consoles. The great games are coming -- MGS4/MGO is right around the corner -- but these things take time.

all this....and it still outsells the 360 :)

mm, I suppose. http://nexgenwars.com/

Seriously nexgenwars is a loud of BS. The numbers use a electronic counter system and its highly inaccurate. 360 and PS3 numbers go up by one console every second. The Wii goes up by 2 consoles every second. Hmmm looks like a joke to me.
